MMPC Model 10/20 (250-1640/41) Adapters Faxback Doc. # 2522 Installing an Expansion Adapter You can install two full-length adapters in your computer. The audio adapter is installed in the bottom expansion slot. > Note: Certain video adapters require you to disable the SVGA circuitry on the main logic board by changing the setting of On-Board Video jumpers. Refer to "Changing Jumper Settings" for information. Before you begin, carefully read the following steps and the documentation provided with the expansion adapter. To install an expansion adapter: 1. Turn off the computer, and disconnect all cables. 2. Discharge any accumulated static electricity from your body by touching a grounded metal object. Then, open the computer. Refer to "Opening the Computer." 3. Remove the screw and expansion slot cover. Save the slot cover in case you later remove the expansion adapter. > Caution: The bottom expansion slot contains the audio adapter. The bottom slot supports a half-length adapter (or any adapter up to 8 inches long). Installing a longer adapter in the bottom slot will restrict your access to main logic board components. 4. Press the expansion adapter into the expansion slot connector on the adapter connector. When installing a full-length adapter, be sure to position the adapter correctly in the front guide slot. 5. Secure the expansion adapter bracket, using the screw you removed earlier. 6. Connect expansion adapter cables (if any) as specified by the instructions provided with the adapter. 7. Check that the internal cables are securely connected and do not cause mechanical interference. Then, close the computer. Refer to "Closing the Computer." 8. Update the worksheet at the end of this manual. 9. Run the setup utility to update the system configuration. Refer to the "Utilities" section. (smc-02/02/94)
