MMPC Model 10/20 (250-1640/41) Passwords Faxback Doc. # 2527 The computer supports two passwords: * Power-On Password - Prevents unauthorized use of your computer. If you set up a power-on password, you must enter it each time you turn on the computer or press the reset button. * Keyboard Password - Temporarily locks and unlocks your keyboard and mouse without your having to turn off the computer. The keyboard password is cleared when you turn off the computer or press the reset button. Each password can have up to seven characters and can consist of any characters on the keyboard. Use a password that is easy for you to remember but difficult for anyone else to guess. For example, do not use your name. The password utilities record the exact keys you press as you create a password. For example, if you use the "6" from the typewriter keys when you create the password, you cannot substitute the "6" from the numeric keys when you enter the password. However, the password utilities do not distinguish between uppercase and lowercase letters. When you create a password, the characters are displayed on the screen as you type them. When you change or enter a password, the characters are not displayed. Creating and Using a Keyboard Password A keyboard password lets you prevent input from keyboard and mouse without turning off the computer. To further protect your data, you can clear the screen before locking the keyboard and mouse. The keyboard password is removed each time you turn off or reset the computer. > Note: Unless you specify a different keyboard password, the keyboard password is the same as the power-on password.
