ZPDA (250-3100) Linking the Z-PDA to a Computer Faxback Doc. # 2643 You can link to another unit or a personal computer running compatible GEOS software. Once linked, you can view documents and files on the other unit or computer. You can also copy or move documents. To link to another com- puter, you need a serial cable to connect the unit's RS-232C port to the computer's serial port. Before you can link to another unit or computer, you need to set the Link options. To set the file link options: 1. From the Preferences screen, tap Connect. 2. From the Connect dialog box, tap File Link Options. 3. In the Name field, enter the user name you gave the unit, using up to eight character. The name you entered during the startup procedure appears. Each unit must have a unique name. 4. Select the baud rate that matches the other system you will be linking to. 5. Select the port that matches the other system. 6. Tap OK. 7. Tap Close. To link to another personal computer: 1. Make sure the power is switched off on both devices. 2. To link to another computer, uncover the RS-232C port and connect the personal computer to the unit using the serial cable and a null modem adapter. If the personal computer uses a 9-pin DB connection, you also need a 25-pin female to 9-pin female adapter. 3. Turn on the power of the personal computer and the unit. 4. Tap the Launcher fixed icon, choose Utilities, and then choose File Manager. 5. Choose File Linking from the Connect menu. A Disconnect button appears next to the Drives icon at the bottom of the screen. Tap it to sever the connection. A list of available drives appears so you can access the drives of the computer you're linked to. 6. Select the drive where you want to view or transfer files. 7. When you finish viewing or transferring files, tap the Disconnect button. 8. Turn off the power in the following sequence; the unit, then the personal computer. Turn off all power off before disconnecting the units. 9. When the power is off, disconnect the cable. Be sure to keep the unit's RS-232C port covered when you are not using it. To link to another unit via the IR port: 1. Place the two units so that the IR ports are aligned. Be sure the units are less than 6 inches apart. 2. Tap the Launcher fixed icon, choose Utilities, and then choose File Manager. 3. Choose File Linking from the Connect menu. A Disconnect button appears next to the Drives icon at the bottom of the screen. Tap it to sever the connection. 4. Select the documents you want to copy or move to the other unit and choose Move or Copy from the File menu. 5. When you finish transferring files, tap the Disconnect button.
