SENSATION! (250-1651) Installing A Expansion Adapter Faxback Doc. # 2738 Your computer has three open expansion slots in the three-slot area of the computer. You can install tow full-length adapters in the upper expansion slots. You can install a half-length ISA expansion adapter in the bottom slot. If you are installing an upgrade processor or additional memory, do so before you install expansion adapters in he three-slot area. Otherwise, you will have to remove the adapters before installing SIMMs or an upgrade processor. If you prefer not to install adapters, your computer dealer can arrange to have them installed for you. INSTALLING AN EXPANSION ADAPTER IN THE THREE-SLOT AREA The top two slots support full-length adapters. the bottom slot supports a half-length adapter (up to 8 inches). If you will be performing other installations or upgrades that require you to access jumpers or sockets on the main logic board, complete them before installing adapters in the three-slot area. CAUTION: Installing a longer adapter in the bottom slot can damage the adapter or the main logic board. Read the expansion adapter documentation and follow these steps to install an expansion adapter: 1. Open the computer as described in "Opening and Closing the Computer." 2. Remove the expansion slot screw and cover. Save the slot cover in case you later remove the expansion adapter. 3. Press the expansion adapter into the expansion slot connector on the riser card. If you are installing a full-length adapter, be sure to correctly position it in the guide slot. 4. Secure the expansion adapter bracket, using the screw you removed from the slot cover. 5. Connect the expansion adapter cables (if any) as specified by the instructions provided with the adapter. To route a cable between an expansion adapter in the three-slot expansion area and a device in a drive bay, route the cable through the opening at the top of the riser card. Remove both drive supports as described in the "System Disassembly" section. Then, remove the chassis crossbar. After routing the cable, reinstall the chassis crossbar and drive supports. Then attach the cable to the device. 6. Be sure the internal cables are securely connected and do not cause mechanical interference. Then, close the computer as described in "Opening and Closing the Computer." 7. Reconnect all cables. 8. Run the setup utility to enter any information that has changed due to installation of the expansion adapter. Update the system worksheet. (smc-12/06/93)
