3200 (250-1633) CD-ROM Restore and Disk Utility Faxback Doc. # 2767 Use the Disk Utility program to make the master disks for the programs installed by Tandy on your hard disk. In the unlikely event that the programs become corrupted or are erased, you can use the master disks to reinstall the programs on your hard disk. The Disk Utility starts automatically when you run WinMate. Follow the on-screen instructions to make master disks, or refer to the WinMate on- line help for more complete instructions. You need 42 blank, high- density, 3.5" disks to create all the master disks. If you are no longer being prompted to make master program diskettes or WinMate backups on the Tandy 3200, you can edit the INSTALPC.INI file to the following: [Wrapper] nShouldRunASTDU=1 [Remind] Remind=1 Alternatively, if this does not cause the disk utility and backup screens to appear you can run the DU.EXE file from the C:\DU directory from Windows to run the mastering program. You can also run the INSTALPC.EXE file from the C:\WINMATE directory to run the WinMate backup procedure. NOTE: The breakdown of the number of diskettes needed to make master diskettes is as follows: Software Program No. of Disks needed ______________________________________________________________________ MS-DOS Version 6.21 4 Windows Version 3.11 6 Winmate 25 (uncompressed) Video for Windows, Runtime Version 1.1 2 PFS:Window Works Version 2.02 3 Logitech Mouse Driver Version 6.12 1 Cirrus 5424 Video Drivers Version 1.43 1 After you back up each program, you are prompted to delete the master files for that program. The master files are used by the Disk Utility only and have no effect on the installed programs. After you delete the master disk files, the Disk Utility no longer starts automatically when you run WinMate. Once you have created the master disks for the programs on your hard disk, store the disks for safekeeping. IF you need to reinstall your operating system see your DOS or Windows user's manual for further instructions. CD ROM Backup Disk Your Computer System includes a CD-ROM back up disk with copies of the original software installed on your computer's hard disk. In addition to the master disks you created using the disk utility, you can use the CD- ROM disk to restore the programs on your hard disk, should they ever become corrupted or erased. If you install a CD-ROM drive on your computer, follow the instructions on the CD-ROM package to reinstall the programs on the hard disk. If you do not have a CD-ROM drive, take your CD-ROM disk and instructions to your local Radio Shack store for assistance. Please note the following issues before you attempt the restoration of your hard drive image: - The Tandy 3200 Hard Drive Image Restoration Disc (CD) is for use only in the event the factory installed software is lost or damaged. - The software on the CD will restore the Tandy WinMate software or the entire hard drive to the original factory settings. - If you have installed a CD-ROM drive after the original purchase of your system, see the RESTORING FROM AN INTERNAL CD-ROM DRIVE section of this document. - If you have not installed a CD-ROM drive, you will need to take the Tandy 3200 Hard Drive Image Restoration Disc (CD) to your local Radio Shack or participating dealer so that the restoration can be done.
