4100 MT (250-5160) Adding Memory Faxback Doc. # 2775 Warning: This CPU does not support 8 MB SIMMS. This CPU does not support double sided SIMMS. NOTE: The 32 bit SIMMS for this CPU are available through Third Party Products. The 4 MB (1x32) SIMM Kit can be ordered under Catalog #. 250-5138. To add system memory, follow these steps: 1. Turn the computer off, unplug the power and phone cords, disconnect all peripheral devices, remove the system-unit-cover, and move the internal drive bay. 2. For better access to the SIMM sockets, remove the power supply: Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the four power supply screws on the back of the computer. Pull the power supply out and place it next to the chassis. Note: To prevent the power supply from dropping onto the system board, hold it with one hand while removing the screws. 3. Select the sockets into which you will insert the SIMMs. Fill sockets in sequence; for instance, fill socket 0 before socket 1. Only 70-ns or faster, 32-bit SIMMs should be used. Other memory upgrades might not work correctly in your computer. 4. Remove SIMMs if necessary. You cannot remove a SIMM without first removing any SIMMs located below it. To remove a SIMM, carefully pull the plastic retaining clips sideways and push the SIMM down slightly. Pull the SIMM out of the socket; be careful to avoid damage. 5. When installing SIMMs, insert the SIMM in the highest empty socket first. Carefully push the SIMM into the socket until it is fully seated. The easiest method may be to push in the right side of the SIMM first and then the left side. Push the SIMM back until it snaps into place. Install as many SIMMs as you need to match the configuration in the table. 6. Replace the power supply, internal drive bay, and system-unit cover. Reconnect peripheral devices and plug in the power and phone cords. When you start the computer, it will automatically recognize the change in memory configuration. (ALL/all-06/16/94)
