425SX/433SX (259-7713/14) Video Memory Faxback Doc. # 2819 OMNI II MID TOWER NOTE: 256K x 4 DRAMS can be ordered under Catalog Number 250-1082. 256K x 16 DRAM ZIP chips can be ordered through Third Party Products. INSTALLING VIDEO MEMORY The computer supports up to 2MB of video memory. UPGRADING TO 1MB OF VIDEO MEMORY If your computer was shipped with 512KB of video memory, you can upgrade to 1MB of video memory by inserting four 256KB x 4 DRAM DIP chips. Use 50 ns or faster, fast page-mode chips. (Video memory speed is a measure of access time, so a higher number reflects a slower speed). To install a DIP chip, align its notch with the notch on the socket. Taking care not to touch or bend the pins, insert the chip into the socket. UPGRADING TO 2MB OF VIDEO MEMORY If your computer has 1MB of video memory, you can upgrade to 2MB of video memory by inserting two 256Kb x 16 DRAM ZIP chips. The base video memory is rated at 50 ns. If you install 60 ns or 60 ns chips, set the Video Memory Speed jumper blocks for the slower speed. (Video memory speed is a measure of access time, so a higher number reflects a slower speed.) To install a ZIP chip, align its notched corner with the end of the socket near the riser card connector. Taking care not to touch or bend the pins, insert the chip into the socket. CHANGING JUMPER SETTINGS A JUMPER BLOCK is a set of small, metal pins on a circuit board. A plastic cover, called a JUMPER, can be installed on or removed from a pair of pins to complete or break an electrical connection. A circuit board's jumper settings affect various board functions. The jumpers on your computer's main logic board are set at the factory for your system. However, if you install certain hardware options or choose to enable or disable certain system features, you might need to change some jumper settings. If you remove a jumper, PARK it on one pin for possible future use. CAUTION: Incorrect jumper settings can cause a malfunction or a decrease in performance. If you prefer, you computer dealer can arrange to have jumper settings changed for you. (smc-12/09/93)
