4100 MT (250-5160) Troubleshooting Faxback Doc. # 2821 Your system performs a power-on self-test (POST) when it starts. Should you encounter any of the following problems, follow the corresponding instructions: Your computer does not come on: Are all the cables properly connected to the computer? If you are using a printer or other device with your computer, make sure it is properly connected and turned on. (See the device's manual for instructions.) If you have installed an add-in board, have you installed it correctly? Is the voltage setting on the back panel set to 115V, or 230 V if your power outlet uses that voltage? The computer comes on, but nothing appears on the monitor: Is the monitor plugged in and turned on? Are the brightness and contrast nobs correctly adjusted? Is your software correctly configured for your monitor and video adapter? Check the software user's manual. If you installed an add-in video board, have you installed and configured it correctly? The computer comes on, but does not finish booting: Does the computer beep more than once when you turn it on? If you just changed the computer configuration, it may not be configured correctly. Run System Setup to fix the configuration The section "POST Beep Codes" can help you determine which component caused the error. Does a configuration error message appear on the screen? If so, run System Setup to correct the problem. If you installed a second hard drive, have you installed and configured it correctly? Check your installation and make sure it is correct. Does the computer report a CMOS or battery failure error? Run System Setup to check your configuration. If the configuration settings are lost, the batter needs to be replaced. The computer boots but does not run properly: Is the computer unable to use the second hard disk you installed? Make sure it is configured in System Setup. Also, make sure you have partitioned and formatted the drive. You have problems using a CD-ROM drive: Make sure you are using the appropriate version of the MSCDEX.EXE CD-driver software. Use the version of MSCDEX.EXE that came with your operating system, or contact the manufacturer of the CD-ROM drive for the correct CD-driver software. (ALL/all-06/16/94)
