3200 (250-1633) Memory Upgrade Faxback Doc. # 2833 NOTE: The 32 bit memory SIMM's for this CPU are available through Third Party Products only. The 4 Meg (1x32) SIMM Kit can be ordered under Catalog Number 25-5138. The SIMM sockets on the main logic board support 32- or 36-bit 1MB, 2MB, and 4MB SIMM's. The computer requires SIMM's rated at 70 ns or faster. The system board has two SIMM sockets, called banks. The banks are numbered BANK0 and BANK1. Table 2 shows the valid memory configurations. TABLE 2 VALID SIMM CONFIGURATIONS TOTAL MEMORY BANK0 BANK1 4 MB 2-MB 2-MB 4 MB 4-MB Empty 5 MB 4-MB 1-MB 6 MB 4-MB 2-MB 8 MB 4-MB 4-MB 8 MB 8-MB Empty 9 MB 8-MB 1-MB 10 MB 8-MB 2-MB 12 MB 8-MB 4-MB 16 MB 8-MB 8-MB 16 MB 16-MB Empty 17 MB 16-MB 1-MB 18 MB 16-MB 2-MB 20 MB 16-MB 4-MB 24 MB 16-MB 8-MB 32 MB 16-MB 16-MB To add a SIMM, or to remove an existing SIMM and replace it, complete these steps: 1. Turn the computer off, unplug the power cord, disconnect all peripheral devices, and remove the computer-chassis cover. 2. Locate the memory banks on the system board. Refer to the illustration that unfolds from the back cover of this manual. 3. If necessary, remove any add-in boards that block easy access to the SIMM banks. 4. If you need to remove a SIMM, carefully pull the retaining clips from the edges of the SIMM. AT the same time, push the SIMM slightly forward from the back. Remove the SIMM carefully to avoid damage. 5. To install a SIMM, slide it into the first empty bank and push it back until the retaining clips snap into place. Make sure the SIMM is securely in its bank. 6. If you removed any add-in boards to reach the SIMM banks, replace the add-in boards. 7. Replace the computer-chassis cover. Reconnect peripheral devices and plug in the power cord. Turn on the system. (SMC-05/24/94)
