SENSATION! (250-1651) Connecting External Speakers Faxback Doc. # 2863 Headphones should be plugged into the headphone jack on the front panel. The volume controls on the front panel of the computer control both the headphone jack and the PC speaker. If no headphones or other sound output device is connected to the front headphone jack, all sound (both PC sound and Sound Blaster sound) will come through the PC speaker. Once a sound output device is connected to the front, the PC speaker is disabled. An amplified device can be plugged into the SPK OUT jack on the Sound Blaster. The PC speaker will remain enabled. The front volume controls will still control the volume level of the PC speaker, but will have no effect on the volume level of the SPK OUT jack To control the volume of a device connected to the SPK OUT jack, the device itself must have a volume control. Note: The volume control on the Sound Blaster card is disabled. The Sound Blaster is jumpered so that its internal amplifier is disabled, thereby disabling the volume control. As a result, the sound from the SPK OUT plug on the Sound Blaster card is not amplified. If using the MMS 10 or other output device with RCA male plugs, use the 42-2475 adapter to connect to the front or back output jack. The adapter is RCA female to 1/8 inch (mini-stereo) male. In all cases, use the SB16Mixer (in the SoundBlaster16 group) to set all volume controls up to a sufficient level. Save these settings under "Settings". The SBMixer controls are: Voc, MIDI, CD, Lin, Spk, and Master Control Vol, Treble and Bass (sm/rl-5/26/94)
