Western Digital (250-0100/1/2/3/4) Jumper Settings Faxback Doc. # 2908 Hard Disk Upgrade Kits Be sure you have determined your installation requirements, configuration, and materials before proceeding. The Caviar drive has a jumper block (J8) located next to the 40-pin connector on the drive. The Caviar drive is factory set for single drive installation. If you are installing the Caviar drive as the only IDE drive in your system, you do not need to install any jumper shunts. In dual drive installations, jumper shunts are needed to designate which drive is master and which is slave. If you have a dual installation (two IDE drives), you must designate one of the drives as the master and the other as the slave. The jumper pins on block J8 need to be configured for dual installation. To designate the Caviar drive as the master, place a jumper shunt on pins 5-6. To designate the Caviar drive as the slave, place a jumper shunt on pins 3-4. Single Drive-(J8)-No Jumpers or 3 & 5 Jumped Dual Master-(J8)-5 & 6 Jumped Dual Slave-(J8)-3 & 4 Jumped NOTES: Designation of a drive as either master or slave is determined by jumper configuration, not by the order in which it is daisy-chained to the other drive. As of July 1994 Western Digital is adding a jumper shunt on all 3.5" Caviar drives. With the jumper now added to the drive, you can configure your drive as either a single, master or slave, without having to purchase an extra jumper shunt. The jumper is installed on the J8 jumper block across pins 3 and 5 which is a neutral storage position. (SMC/jlc-08/08/94)
