Sensation! (250-1650) Software Upgrade Faxback Doc. # 2994 Sensation! Data Disc 1.01 updates your MS-DOS, BIN, Windows, and WinMate files. The upgrade does not change any data files. When you purchased your Sensation! computer, the software was in the following directories: C:\DOS, C:\BIN, C:\WINDOWS, and C:\WINMATE. If you have not changed the names of any of these directories, use the first upgrade procedure. If you have changed the names of any of the directories, use the second upgrade procedure. Note: The upgrade overwrites any MOUSE.COM and MOUSE.SYS files in the MS-DOS directory. This overwriting does not affect performance. If You have Not Changed the Directory Names The following procedure assumes that your CD-ROM drive is still the default, Drive D. If you have changed the CD-ROM drive, specify the correct drive letter in place of D:. 1. Insert Sensation! Data Disc 1.01 into the CD-ROM drive. 2. Make sure that you are not running Windows. 3. To start the upgrade, type: d:\upgrade and press ENTER. When the program finishes executing, the files on your hard drive are updated. See "Notes" for additional information. If You Have Changed the Directory Names If you have changed the names of any of the software directories, you must upgrade MS-DOS, Windows, and WinMate, in succession. Press ENTER after every command you type. 1. Insert Sensation! Data Disc 1.01 into the CD-ROM drive. 2. Make sure that you are not running Windows. 3. Start the upgrade by entering the UPGDOS command. The format for the command depends on whether you have changed the CD-ROM drive, the MS-DOS directory, and/or the BIN directory. Your Sensation! software update is complete. See "Notes" for additional information. Notes Running the Sensation! Demo The Sensation! demo will sound better if the following line exists in the [MCIAVI] section of your WIN.INI file: DontBufferOffscreen=1 You can edit WIN.INI, which is in your Windows directory, using NOTEPAD.EXE or another editor. Or, you can use Control Panel, to make the change. In Control Panel, click on the Drivers icon. Then, highlight the MCI Microsoft Video for Windows driver and click on the Setup button. Select the Don't buffer offscreen option, and click on the Set Default button. Using WinMate Phone Center cannot answer the phone if another application is playing a sound. If you want Phone Center to answer your phone calls, do not leave an application running that plays sounds. If you have a screen saver that plays sounds, Phone Center will not answer the phone while the screen saver is active. Do not use such screen savers if you want Phone Center to answer the phone. WinMate stores its user data in WinMate database files that have the extension .DBO. If you wish to keep backup copies of these files, specify *.DBO in your backup procedure. The options available with the Graphics Manager application depend on the task for which you are using the application. When editing your Desktop views, note that your illustrations will always appear behind the launchers, doors, and animations when you exit design mode. You cannot place illustrations in front of these Desktop objects. Changing Video Drivers If you use the Windows SETUP program to change video drivers, you must upgrade MS-DOS and Windows again. Run UPGDOS and UPGWIND as described earlier. Reinstalling MS-DOS and Windows If you ever reinstall MSDOS or Windows from your original Sensation! disc, you must upgrade MS-DOS and Windows again.
