20 Meg Hard Disk Card (250-1029A/B) Initialization Faxback Doc. # 3006 The INSTALL disk that comes with the drive will be used when initializing the drive for system use. From your MS-DOS disk copy the following files to the INSTALL diskette. COMMAND.COM HFORMAT.COM FDISK.COM After completing the above listed and with your INSTALL disk in drive A:\ type: INSTALL When the automatic initialization begins, the screen displays various prompts asking you to perform certain tasks or answer questions. Once the Auto Install program starts formatting the Hard Disk Card, the rest of the initialization process usually takes under 15 minutes. Once this is complete you are ready to install data to the c drive. NOTE: If you ever need to reinitialize the drive, use the INSTALL disk as described here. Always backup or store your data prior to use, as this will initialize the entire disk and your DATA WILL BE LOST. ALTERNATE INSTALL PROCEDURES MS-DOS 03.20.22 uses the AUTOFMT command on the DOS diskette. If using 5.25 floppy DOS diskettes, it is necessary to create an AUTOFMT diskette. Simply copy the following files to blank diskette formatted with the "/s" option (EXAMPLE: format b: /s) for the system files. At this point you will need to copy the below listed DOS files to your AUTOFMT disk. AUTOFMT.EXE MLPART.SYS HDRIVE.SYS At the A:\ prompt with the AUTOFMT DISK type: AUTOFMT /b The "/b" will cause AUTOFMT to prompt for information it needs to lock out flawed (bad) areas on the disk so that MS-DOS will not allow you to write files or directories to these areas. (Having a small number of flawed areas is not uncommon). Bad areas will be charted via the media map on the top side of drive. EXAMPLE: HD/CYL YOU WOULD INPUT 4,105 4,105 MS-DOS 3.3 uses HSECT, FDISK and FORMAT on the MS-DOS diskette. Prior to HSECT you will need to check the media map on top side of drive for any possible bad cylinders/heads. Take time to write the flawed areas as this information will be needed to lock out any bad areas from your system. * NOTE: Do not interrupt HSECT while it is formatting the drive. (dkh-08/05/93)
