20 Meg Hard Disk Card (250-1032B) Initialization Faxback Doc. # 3020 Prior to AUTOFMT or HSECT you will need to check the media map on top side of drive for bad cylinders/heads. Take the time to write this information down as this information will be needed to lock out any bad areas from your system, cyl/hd are all that is needed. 25-1032/A/B uses the AUTOFMT command on the DOS diskette. At the A:\ prompt type: AUTOFMT /b NOTE: If the drive has been previously low level formatted with AUTOFMT or HSECT you will not need the "/b" switch. The "/b" will cause AUTOFMT to prompt for information it needs to lock out flawed (bad) areas on the disk so that MS-DOS will not allow you to write files or directories to these areas. (Having a small number of flawed areas is not uncommon). Bad areas will be charted via the media map on the top side of drive. EXAMPLE: HD/CYL 4/105 YOU WOULD INPUT 4,105 When the last bad area has been locked out or if your drive has no bad areas to continue. ALTERNATE INSTALL: HSECT, FDISK and FORMAT on the MS-DOS diskette/s. Prior to HSECT you will need to check the media map on top side of drive for any possible bad cylinders/heads.
