20 Meg Hard Disk Card (250-1032C/D/E) Initialization Faxback Doc. # 3024 ALTERNATE FORMATTING PROCEDURE DEBUG (this is a hard cards low level format) listed below is step by step procedure for DEBUG: * NOTE: ROM based machines such as the SL & TL series will need to have setup modified to the following: Start up device "DISK" Start up program "DOS" At an a:\ prompt, with MS-DOS in drive a:\ type: DEBUG At the debug prompt (hyphen), type: G=C800:5 The first question is "Current drive is C" select new drive or return for current. Answer the second question by pressing "Default Interleave" Answer the third question, "are you dynamically configuring the drive?", with a (Y). At the prompt, type: 782^2^782^782^11^7 Where: ^ is a space Next, answer the question, "are you virtually configuring the drive?", answer with a (N) for all 20 meg on one partition. If you prefer to split (partition) your drive choose (Y). You will now see the following question, "key in cylinder number for virtual drive split as XXXX... (this creates the partition size). Input the number of cylinders for your first partition. EXAMPLE: 391 for a 10 Meg partition The system will automatically subtract the number of remaining cylinders for the extended partition (logical drive). At the prompt "Press 'Y' to begin formatting drive C with interleave 04", press (Y) to continue low level formatting the drive. After approximately 15 minutes, you will be prompted with "Do you want to format restricted cylinders: answer Y/N." If you have bad cylinders listed on your media map (small chart on top side of drive that should be noted prior to installation) you will need to enter (Y) at this time; if not answer (N) and continue. When the low level format operation is complete, restart your system with your MS-DOS diskette. You are now ready to run "FDISK", at an a:\ prompt with MS-DOS in drive a:\ type: FDISK You should be prompted with FDISK menu options. Choose #1, create dos partition Select #1, primary partition If you wish to use the maximum space available for drive c:\ press as Y" is default. You are now ready to FORMAT the drive. Choose "N" if you want any other partition size and enter the number cylinders of partition size . EXAMPLE: 391 for 10mg partition Your system will now reboot, If you chose to partition the drive (two or more partitions) then at the a:\ prompt return to FDISK options with: FDISK AT the FDISK menu: Choose #1 create dos partition . Choose (#2) create extended partition (for remainder of disk space). At this point a logical drive assignment is needed. At the FDISK main menu choose #1 create dos partition . Choose #3 for create logical drive This should assign drive D (DRIVE E FOR 1000 SL TL SERIES) for your logical drive. You are now ready to "FORMAT" the drive.
