Warning: This drive comes pre-configured, formatted, and with software
         installed on the Tandy Factory Direct machines. This information
         is provided if there is ever a need to reinstall the hard drive.

Caution: Do not run HSECT.COM on this drive. The drive is low level
         formatted from the manufacturer. FDISK.EXE and FORMAT.COM are all
         that is required to reformat the hard drive.

Run the computer Setup utility to specify the drive type. If your setup
utility supports auto configuration, select Auto to read the parameters.
If your setup utility does not support auto configuration select Any
(Non-Standard type) or Other as the drive type.

After you select Non-Standard, enter the following information:

    Cylinders              1010
    Heads                  12
    Sectors per Track      55
    Landing Zone           0

Before you can use this hard drive, you must initialize it by creating one 
or more partitions. Then, you must format each partition of the drive to 
prepare it to store and access the operating system and other files.

Follow these steps to initialize the SmartDrive if you are using MS-DOS:

1. For MS-DOS version 3.3 or earlier:

   After you start up the system from MS-DOS operating system diskettes, use
   the fdisk command to partition the hard drive. Hard disks that have
   capacities greater than 32MB must include at least two partitions
   (usually C and D) to store data above the 32MB boundary.

   For MS-DOS version 5.0 or 6.0:

   After you start up the system from the MS-DOS operating system diskette,
   exit the install procedure and use the fdisk command to partition the
   hard drive. MS-DOS 5.0 and 6.0 have the ability to create larger that a
   32 MB partition.

Note: If you are using another operating system, refer to your operating
      system documentation for information about formatting disks.

2. Use the format command to format each partition. Format the active 
   partition with the /s switch (format c:/s) to copy the MS-DOS system
   files to the partition and make it bootable.

3. For MS-DOS 3.3 or earlier:

   Use the Copy command to copy the remaining files from:

    Operating System Diskette(s)
    Utilities Diskette(s)

   For MS-DOS 5.0 or 6.0:

   Reboot the computer and follow the instructions of the automatic install
   procedure included with the MS-DOS 5.0 and 6.0.

4. Remove the diskette from Drive A and reset the computer to start up from 
   the hard drive.

Refer to your MS-DOS documentation for specific information about the fdisk,
format, and copy commands.
