Docking Station (250-3583) Installing Expansion Boards Faxback Doc. # 3107 Use with the Tandy 3830 SL / 3830 SL/C. The docking station has two 8/16-bit expansion slots for expansion boards. You can install an 8- or 16-bit half-size or full-size expansion board in the upper slot. You can install an 8- or 16-bit half-size (up to 6 3/4" long) in the lower expansion slot. Before Installation: * Turn off the docking station and the computer. If both units are on, turn off the computer first. Then turn off the docking station. Unplug the AC power cord. * We recommend you disconnect the computer from the docking station before you remove or insert a board. If you move the docking station or computer when you remove or insert a board and they are connected, you can damage the port or connector. * Do not touch any component or the edge connector on the expansion board. * Do not place metal objects such as paper clips inside the docking station. * Do not touch any component inside the docking station. This can damage the docking station. Installation: After you read all items under "Before Installation," follow these steps to install an expansion board: 1. Remove the four screws on the back cover. Pull the cover's knobs to remove it from the docking station. 2. Loosen the screw and remove the appropriate expansion slot's cover. You use the same screw to secure the expansion board, so take care not to lose the screw. 3. Hold the board horizontally, and firmly insert the board's connector into the expansion slot. If you install a full-size board, insert the left end of the board into the board guide on the left of the docking station. 4. Secure the expansion board with the screw you removed in Step 2. Note: Keep the expansion slot cover that you removed in case you later remove the board for any reason. 5. Replace the back cover and tighten the screws. (jej-05/10/94)
