Fax Modem (250-3581) Modem Test Faxback Doc. # 3136 If you are having trouble sending a fax, BitFax includes a simple program to test your modem. The Modem Test program shows you each step BitFax takes when sending a fax. This allows you to see where BitFax runs into problems. You can also use this diagnostic program to send modem commands directly to your modem. To open the Setup Menu, select the Test Fax Modem command from the Communication Function Menu. A message will appear showing you which serial ports that are in use. Press any key to continue. The Setup Menu will appear. This menu shows the communication parameters BitFax will use for the modem test. You probably will not need to change any of these parameters, although you can by using the left and right arrow keys. NOTE: The Baud Rate indicates the data speed of your modem, not the fax speed. Many modems have a data speed of 2400 baud and a fax speed of 9600 baud. TESTING YOUR MODEM To test your modem, press [F9]. The Test Fax Modem Menu will appear. From here, you can test you modem by sending a test fax. When you send a test fax, you will see the commands BitFax sends to your modem and the commands your modem receives from the remote fax machine. This is helpful in determining just where you are having a problem. To send a test fax, press [F4]. BitFax will prompt you for a fax number. Enter a number and press [ENTER]. BitFax will then go through the steps of sending a fax. This menu also works as a dumb terminal. In the bottom half of the screen, you can type the commands directly into your modem. To reset your modem, for example, you can type the command "ATZ" and press [ENTER]. Your modem should return an OK. You can also reset your modem by pressing [F2]. To check your modem's ID, press [F3]. (SMC-04/07/94)
