Memory PLUS Adapter (250-2062) Installation Faxback Doc. # 3189 INTRODUCTION The Memory PLUS Expansion Adapter is readily installable by you, however, you can have the kit installed by the service technician at your Radio Shack Service Center. Having our service technicians install the kit not only ensures expert installation, but also enables them to quickly check to be sure all the equipment is functioning properly. WHAT YOU NEED BEFORE GETTING STARTED 1. A Tandy 1000EX or 1000HX with 256K memory. 2. A Phillips screwdriver. Note: Caution should be exercised in low humidity environments to prevent damage to electronic parts by static electricity being discharged through them. Discharge any built-up static electricity by touching a grounded metal object before proceeding further. PREPARING THE COMPUTER 1. Turn off all equipment and disconnect the power cord from the wall socket. If the computer is on, you could damage the central processing unit (CPU), as well as your Memory PLUS Expansion Adapter. 2. Slide the memory compartment lid off the machine. The lid is removed by sliding it toward the back of the computer. 3. If there is an option board already installed in the expansion slot on the main logic board, remove it. 4. There are three plastic spacers on the back of a Tandy 1000EX or HX, held in place by six Phillips screws. Remove all three spacers. INSTALLING THE MEMORY PLUS EXPANSION ADAPTER 1. The Memory PLUS Expansion Adapter must be installed in slot 1, the one directly on top of the main logic board. 2. Carefully install the memory PLUS Expansion Adapter into the main logic board expansion slot. Slide the edge of the Adapter under the wires to the disk drive power connector. Align the pins and the connector. Press the Memory PLUS Expansion Adapter down firmly, but gently, to seat it. Make sure the Expansion Adapter is seated properly. 3. Secure the Memory PLUS Expansion Adapter to the back of the computer with the screws in the same manner as the plastic spacers were held in place. 4. Carefully install any other option board(s) in the empty expansion slot(s) on the Memory PLUS Expansion Adapter by aligning the pins and the connector and pressing the board(s) down firmly, but gently, to seat them. 5. If you do not have any upgrade boards, then you should reinstall the plastic spacers on slots 2 and 3. The plastic spacers can be separated from each other by bending at the perforations. Secure with the Phillips screws. 6. Replace the memory compartment cover. The Memory PLUS board is now ready for use! (ALL-8/24/94)
