WinMate Tandy 3200 (250-1633) Getting Help Faxback Doc. # 3204 WinMate on-line help is a quick way to find information about any task or menu command. The help system can be accessed from the desktop or application while you are completing any task. You can get help in a desktop or application by pressing or by choosing a command from the Help menu. OR, if you are completing information in a dialog box and you need help, choose Help in the dialog box. When you access Help, you will see a window similar to the one below, with information about the desktop or application you are using. You can use the scroll bar on the right side of the help window to display additional information. Click on the up or down arrow icon down arrow up arrow to scroll through the text. When you click on an underlined topic, WinMate displays information for the task or topic you chose. Some help topics contain: Words or phrases that appear with a dotted underline. When you click on one of these terms, WinMate displays a brief definition or additional information. When you are through reading, press any key or click the mouse button to remove the definition box and return to the help topic. Words or phrases that appear with a solid underline. When you click on one of these terms, WinMate moves you to a new help topic that describes the underlined phrases. When you are through using Help, choose Exit from the File menu, or click anywhere outside the help box. About the Help Menu Almost every desktop and application has a Help menu that appears as the last item on the menu bar. The commands available on this menu include: Contents: Displays the contents of on-line help. Keyboard: Displays shortcuts for performing common keyboard tasks in the current application. Menu Commands: Displays a list of topics, so you can get quick information about a specific menu command. Tasks and Topics: Displays information about how to use the WinMate on- line help system. Using Help: Displays information about how to use the WinMate on-line help system. About: Displays copyright and version number information for the current application. Not all of these commands are available for every application. Getting Around in Help Navigation buttons appear just below the menu bar in the help window. Contents: Displays the contents for the current help file. Search: Displays the Search dialog box so you can use keywords and phrases to find a help topic. Back: Backs you through topics you have already displayed. History: Displays the History dialog box, which contains a list of the help topics you have already viewed. The most recent help appears first in the list. Viewing the Help Windows You can keep the help window displayed on the screen while you are working in your application. However, you might find that it is useful to resize the window so you can see more of the application screen you are using. To adjust the size of the window: 1. Move the mouse pointer to the edge of the window so the cursor changes to a double arrow. 2. Drag the mouse to adjust the window to the desired size. You might also want to resize the application window using the same method. In the help box, if you select Always On Top from the Help menu, the help window remains on top of (in front of) the application window. When you are in the help screen, you can click on the application window to return to the application and still see the information in the window. You can always use Print Topic from the File menu, in the help window, to print the current help topic. Advanced Help Features Advanced help features let you customize on-line help for your personal reference. Annotate With Annotate from the Edit menu, you can add notes to the current help topic. When you use this feature, WinMate places a paper clip icon at the title of the topic. You can click on this icon to display your note the next time you view the topic. Bookmark The Bookmark feature in on-line help enables you to mark your place at a particular help topic. Using Define from the Bookmark menu, you can place a bookmark on the current topic. Then, when you access Help again in the current application, you can use the bookmark menu to locate the topic you marked.
