The following are the factory default settings of the the Sound Blaster 16.

                 Interrupt - 5
         8-bit DMA channel - 1
        16-bit DMA channel - 5
          Base I/O Address - 220H
MIDI Port Base I/O Address - 330H
             Joystick Port - Enabled
         MPU-401 MIDI Port - Enabled
    Audio Output Amplifier - Internal Amplifier

PLEASE NOTE:  You can change the interrupt and DMA channels without 
removing the card from your system by running DIAGNOSE.EXE located in
the SB16 directory. The possible IRQ settings are 2, 5 (Default), 7, 
and 10. The possible 8-bit DMA channels are 0, 1 (Default), and 3.  
The possible 16-bit DMA channels are 5 (Default), 6, and 7.

To test the audio output of the sound card, you can run DIAGNOSE. 
The program will begin testing the Interrupt, DMA, and other hardware 
settings to make sure there are no conflicts.  After this test is 
complete, you will be given the opportunity to run three separate 
tests such as 8-bit, 16-bit, and FM synthesizer sound.
