This provides access to computer bulletin boards and on-line services. o Send and receive fax documents directly to and from your computer. The following is a listing of the modem features. This listing can also be accessed by the customer under Ask AST within AST Works. Modem Information Your modem can send and receive both fax and data transmissions, and record and play sound files. Data Features of the Modem Data Features of the Modem include: 14,400/ 9600/2400/1200/300 bit-per-second (bps) data speeds. With V.42bis compression enabled, effective data rates are up to 57,600 bps. Compatibility with these data modem standards: Bell 103 and CCITT V.21 (for 0-300 bps). Bell 212A and CCITT V.22 (for 1200 bps). Bell 202 (1200bps for Caller ID reception only). CCITT V.22bis (for 2400 bps). CCITT V.23 (for 1200/75 bps). CCITT V.32 (for 9600 bps). CCITT V.32bis (for 14,400 bps). MNP2 (for asynchronous line control). MNP3 (for synchronous line control). MNP4 (for error control). MNP5 (for 2:1 compression). CCITT V.42 (for line control). CCITT LAPM (for error control with V.42). CCITT V.42bis (for 4:1 compression). Compression, line control, and error control are implemented in hardware, so no special drivers or libraries are needed to take advantage of the higher speeds and data reliability. Modem command set compatible with Hayes® V-Series ULTRA Smartmodem 14,400 modems. Extensions to the command set provide additional functionality. Automatic dial and answer capabilities. Non-volatile memory (1 KB), which allows key configuration settings to be permanently stored. Fax Features of the Modem Fax features of the modem include: EIA 2388 Class 2 FAX command set (complies with EIA 2388 recommendation dated August 1990). FAX speeds of up to 14,400 bps for send and receive. Compatibility with fax modem transmission standards: CCITT V.17 (14,400 bps). CCITT V.33 (14,400 bps). CCITT V.21 Channel 2 (300 bps). CCITT V.27ter (9600 bps). CCITT V.29 (9600 bps 4-wire). CCITT Group III with T.30 and T.4 protocol handshake. Voice Features of the Modem Voice features of the modem include: Ability to record and play audio over the phone line. Ability to monitor phone line audio (call screening) via the computer speaker. Audio rates of 4800, 7200, 8000, 9600, and 11025 samples per second for recording or playback. Audio compression and decompression. Silence detection and elimination. DTMF detection and snooping. Ability to record from a phone line or from a microphone connected directly to the modem. (This feature is not present on all models.) A supplied Windows driver that provides: The ability to play or record audio from the phone line. Minimal Windows sound support for systems that lack a sound board. DMA is used for transferring audio to reduce system load. DMA channel is software selectable. Other Features of the Modem In addition to data, FAX, and voice capabilities, other features of the modem include: Caller ID, when purchased from your local phone company. Call progress detection in the form of messages that let you know: When the called number is busy. When there is no dial tone. When the called number is ringing. When the called number has been answered. When a connection has been made to another computer or fax machine and at which speed and compression levels. When the local telephone line is ringing. What the distinctive ring pattern is. Adaptive data rate that lets the modem adjust automatically to the speed of the other modem. Local line status that lets the modem detect a telephone on the same phone line being taken off-hook or on-hook. Local pickup that lets the modem detect that a telephone on the same phone line is being taken off the hook while the modem is acting as an answering machine. Remote Disconnect that lets the modem detect when an incoming call has hung up (this signal is not generated by the phone company in all areas) CNG fax tone detection for automatic voice-or-fax detection. Stereo 1/8 (3.175 mm) microphone jack and speaker volume control located on back of modem. (This feature is not present on all models.) Two RJ11C jacks (for telephone line and an optional local telephone). Connections to directly drive an internal speaker and an internal line level output for use with another sound card. An additional connection to the main logic board speaker output is also provided, which allows the modem and the PC to share a single speaker. Connections for front-panel speakerphone controls. (This feature is not present on all models.) This feature is not present on the 6066d. The modem by default uses COM2, IRQ3, and DMA channel 3. You can change the COM port and IRQ settings by changing jumpers on the modem.
