JP 500 (260-2950) Operation Faxback Doc. # 3637 This chapter describes how to insert paper in the printer, indicating the types and characteristics of the paper you can use. It explains how to obtain a print test, to check that the printer is operating correctly and to see which fonts are available, and a hexadecimal print-out, to control that the printer is receiving data correctly from your computer/host- system. It describes in detail the functions of the LEDs and keys on the operator panel Paper Insertion The paper must not be crumpled or torn, other wise it may jam or even not be inserted. Position the moveable right hand guide so that it is level with the paper size indicator (A4 or US) for the paper width you intend to use. (To move the right guide, press it down gently, and holding it down, move it to the position required and then release it.). Fan the paper pack thoroughly and load NOT MORE THAN 15 sheets of paper on the paper input support. If necessary, re-adjust the position of the right hand guide so that it is flush with the paper edge. Make sure the paper feeds smoothly, and that it is not held too tightly nor has too much play. On reception of text to be printed, a sheet will be fed into the printer to the top of form (TOF) position (first print line). After printing, the paper is expelled from the printer and stacked in the output rack (capacity 10 sheets) in front of the paper input tray. If there is no operator panel or printer operation for more than 60 seconds, any paper inserted in the printer will be expelled. Always make sure there is no paper in the printer before switching it off or before doing the PRIME operation. Paper Characteristics Types Most types of paper give good printing quality. Best results are obtained using good quality office paper, which has a paper weight of between 70 and 80 g/m2. Always test thoroughly the type of paper you intend to use. Sub-standard paper can affect the quality of printing. Make sure the paper is inserted in the printer so as to print on the right face of the page (see indication arrow on paper wrapping). Printing on both sides of the paper may cause smudging. Dimensions The following table contains the dimensions of the types of paper which you can use in your printer: Format millimeters inches Horizontal A5 210 x 148 8.26 x 5.8 A4 210 x 297 8.26 x 11.7 Letter 215.9 x 279.4 8.5 x 11 Legal 215.9 x 355.6 8.5 x 14 Film Use only paper-backed film (or transparencies) specifically indicated for ink-jet printers. Insert ONLY five pieces at a time, and add a plain sheet of paper after the fifth film to ease its feed-through. Remove EACH film from the output tray AS SOON AS it has been expelled from the printer. Print Area The print area will vary according to the size of the page inserted. The printer can print a maximum of 67 lines on an A4 page with 6 lpi linespacing (the last line may be printed with slightly defective linespacing).
