JP 500 (260-2950) Printer Function Modes Faxback Doc. # 3639 Part 1 PRINT TEST MODE State imposed by the operator, who has held down the Form Feed key while switching on the printer. The printer will execute the print test automatically and exit to an ON LINE condition once the test is completed. HEXADECIMAL PRINT MODE State imposed by the operator, who has held down the On Line key while switching on the printer. Any data sent to the printer will be printed in its hexadecimal code format until the printer is switched off. PRINTER SET-UP MODE State imposed by the operator, who has held down the Economy/LQ key while switching on the printer. See the Printer Programming Section for a detailed description of the printer set-up procedure and the functions of the keys when the printer is in this operating mode. Programming This chapter explains how to change the printer parameter settings using the SET-UP procedure and lists all the programmable parameters available. Factory Settings When you receive the printer, its basic operating parameters are already set with pre-defined values (default values). These factory settings will probably meet your requirements. If they do not, you can change them, using the SET-UP procedure. The factory settings are as follows: Features Default values Emulation PCL III DJ500 Type style Courier 10 cpi 12 pt Portrait Paper format Din A4 Character set CP 437 - International Quality Letter quality CR definition CR=CR Perforation skip Perfor. skip on Text scale mode Text scale off Graphic density 75 dpi Ink save mode No ink save These are the values which appeared in the print test the very first time you ran it. To restore the factory default values, you must select RESET ALL & SAVE, within the SET-UP procedure. Parameter Selection Procedure Access to the printer SET-UP procedure is from a printer-off condition, so complete any current operation before switching off the printer. How to access the printer programming mode Make sure there are at least 4 sheets of paper in the paper input tray, and that the print head has been inserted. Make sure the printer is switched off, and open its front cover. Hold down the Economy/LQ key as you switch on the printer. A sheet of paper will be fed into the printer (make sure it feeds correctly, exiting in front of the open front cover). The following will be printed: FF = Move to the left <<- CONTROL PANEL ECONOMY/LQ = Move to the right ->> ON-LINE = Select RETURN SETTING *x= Current setting Ex: 1 *2 3 -> setting 2 is on SETUP Emulation :PCLlll DJ500 Type size :COURIER 10 12 Portrait Paper format :DIN A4 Character set :CP 437 Int. Quality :Letter Quality CR definition :CR = CR Perforation skip :Perfor. skip on Text scale mode :Text scale off Graphic density :75 dpi Ink Save Mode :No Ink Save Menu: QUIT Font Paper Char.set Options Printer and the print head will stop under the word "Font". Selection of parameter group/parameter value Using the operator panel keys to move the print head carriage along the parameter group selection line, you can now select change and confirm the parameter values you require. Form Feed moves the print head carriage to the left. Economy/LQ moves the print head carriage to the right. On Line accesses the parameter group/selects the parameter value indicated by the position of the print head. When you access a group of parameters, the currently selected value for that group will be indicated with an asterisk (*). Once a value in parameter group is confirmed/selected (On Line key), the parameter group selection line will be reproposed and the selection of another group will be possible. Termination of SET-UP process To terminate the SET-UP procedure once you have completed the selection of the parameter values you require, proceed as follows: Select "QUIT" in the parameter group selection line; the parameter settings, complete with any changes made in the current SET-UP session, are printed, followed by an exit selection line: BACK to menu QUIT & SAVE RESET ALL & SAVE EXIT (NO Save) If you select BACK to menu, the parameter group selection line will be printed, and you can continue confirming or changing the parameter values. If you select QUIT & SAVE, the changes you have made to the parameter values will be saved. The phrase "-> New Setup saved. OK" will be printed, the paper will be expelled and the printer will exit from SET-UP mode and will be ON-LINE. If you select RESET ALL & SAVE, the factory default values will be restored. The printer will exit from SET-UP mode and will be ON-LINE. If you select EXIT (NO Save), any changes you have made in the current session will be valid ONLY until you switch the printer off, after which they will be lost. The printer will exit from SET-UP mode and will be ON-LINE. At a successive switch-on, the printer will load the values last saved. Parameter Groups and Values The programmable parameters are divided into five groups (Font, Paper Char. set, Options and Printer) which are indicated in the parameter group selection line (the last line of the initial print-out): Menu: QUIT Font Paper Char.set Options Printer Each group contains a series of possible values and/or sub-groups, each of which is assigned a number for its selection. When you select a group of parameters, its contents will be printed. In this section the number marked with an asterisk (*) indicates the factory default value for the group. Font When you select the Font parameter group, the following table is printed: COURIER 1 LETTER GOTHIC 2 BF TIMES 3 TIMES NORDIC 4 LINEA 5 To Menu *1 2 3 4 5 and the print head carriage is positioned under "*1". You can now access the Courier font group, or select and access a new group, using the keys on the operator panel. If you select *l in the Font parameter group, the following table is printed: COURIER 10 12 Portrait 1 COURIER 10 12 Landscape 2 COURIER ITALIC 10 12 Portrait 3 COURIER ITALIC 10 12 Landscape 4 COURIER 16.67 12 Portrait 5 COURIER 16.67 12 Landscape 6 To Menu *1 2 3 4 5 6 and the print head carriage is positioned under "*1". You can now confirm the currently selected font, or choose and confirm a new one, using the keys on the operator panel. If you select 2 in the Font parameter group, the following table is printed: LETTER GOTHIC 16.67 9.5 Portrait 1 LETTER GOTHIC 16.67 9.5 Landscape 2 LETTER GOTHIC 10 12 Portrait 3 LETTER GOTHIC 12 12 Portrait 4 GOTHIC ITALIC 12 12 Portrait 5 LETTER GOTHIC 12 12 Landscape 6 To Menu 1 2 3 4 5 6 and the print head carriage is positioned under "1". You can now choose and confirm a new font from this group, using the keys on the operator panel. If you select 3 in the Font parameter group, the following warning and table are printed: BF TIMES PS 14 Portrait 1 BF TIMES ITALIC PS 14 Portrait 2 BF TIMES PS 12 Portrait 3 BF TIMES ITALIC PS 12 Portrait 4 BF TIMES PS 10 Portrait 5 BF TIMES ITALIC PS 10 Portrait 6 BF TIMES PS 8 Portrait 7 BF TIMES ITALIC PS 8 Portrait 8 To Menu 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 and the print head carriage is positioned under "1". You can now choose and confirm a new font from this group, using the keys on the operator panel. If you select 4 in the Font parameter group, the following table is printed. TMS NORDIC 10 12 Portrait 1 TMS NORDIC ITAL. 10 12 Portrait 2 To Menu 1 2 and the print head carriage is positioned under "1". You can now choose and confirm a new font from this group, using the keys on the operator panel. (br/all-12/15/94)
