DMP-136 (260-2868) Selftest Faxback Doc. # 4030 You can perform the printer's self test to check the print operation, the ribbon and paper installation, and the print head lever adjustment. NOTE: You can not use this test to check the printer's port operation for the printer's interface connector. Before running the self test, be sure to load the printer with paper at least eight inches wide. This prevents printing on the platen, because the test print lines cover a width of eight inches. CAUTION: Never use the printer without paper. Printing without paper might damage the printer. To run the self test, do the following: 1. Turn off the printer. 2. Press and hold down ON LINE while you turn on the printer. The printer prints ASCII characters until it runs out of paper. NOTE: To pause the self test, set the printer off line. To resume the self test, set the printer on line. Performing the Maintenance Test: The printer's maintenance test produces a printout you can use to check the horizontal and vertical character alignment. You can use the printout to check for characters not evenly positioned on the lines. Before running the maintenance test, be sure to load the printer with paper at least eight inches wide. This prevents printing on the platen, because the test print lines cover a width of eight inches. To perform the maintenance test, do the following: 1. Turn off the printer. 2. Press and hold down ON LINE and LF/FF while you turn on the printer. The printer prints complete lines of the capital letter H. NOTE: You can press ON LINE to stop and restart the test. 3. Turn off the printer to end the maintenance test. If the letters do not closely align, contact a nearby Radio Shack store to arrange for service.
