JP 250 (260-2873) Cleaning Faxback Doc. # 4140 Cleaning the Printer: Clean the printer regularly to avoid print problems. If the paper cover becomes dirty with ink mist or paper debris, wipe it away with a soft, wet cloth. Caution: ø Turn the printer off when cleaning it. ø Cleaning the printer body with a volatile liquid like paint thinner or benzine will damage the surface of the body. ø Never wipe the head of the Tandy Jet cartridge with a cloth. Print Head Cleaning: The printer's unique head cleaning system clears paper particles and dust accumulated around the print head nozzles that may otherwise cause printing problems. It also clears the nozzles and helps maintain a high level of print quality. However, if printing problems such as irregular dot print or dot missing should occur, clean the print head as described below: 1. Make sure the printer is turned on and the paper is loaded. 2. Make sure that the printer is online. Press an hold down the FWD ADJ and REV ADJ switches. 3. The ON Line indicator blinks for five seconds while the print head is being cleaned. The check pattern test can be printed by pressing the LF/FF switch within three seconds after pressing the FWD ADJ and REV ADJ switches. When the print check is completed, the printer returns to normal online status. Notes: ø Execute the head cleaning also when using a new Tandy Jet cartridge. ø To set the head cleaning mode properly, press the FWD ADJ and REV ADJ switches when the carriage is stationary. ø Do not execute unnecessary print head cleaning. Repeating the procedure excessively will waste ink. ø Even if the print check described in step (3) is executed, the data in the buffer will be retained. ø The head cleaning can be also executed by turning the power switch on while pressing the FWD ADJ and REV ADJ switches.
