Black Ribbon Cassette (26-2869)

Follow these steps to install the ribbon cassette.

1.  Turn off the printer.

2.  Remove the front cover using both hands.  Then, manually move the carri-
    age to the center of the printer.

Note:  The carriage becomes extremely hot during operation.  Turn the power
off and wait approximately 15 minutes before moving the carriage.

3.  The print head positioning control is on the right side of the printer,    
    below the platen knob.  Note the current setting of this control.  Then,   
    slide it to the rear position, so that the print head pulls away from 
    the platen.

4.  Remove the old ribbon cassette by lifting it upward with both hands.

5.  Unwrap the new cassette and tighten the ribbon by turning the ribbon 
    feed knob in the direction shown by the arrow.

6.  Look at the bottom of the cassette.  There is a hole on the underside of   
    the ribbon feed knob.  Position the left end of the cassette so that the
    ribbon feed spindle slides into this hole.  Then, gently press down on 
    the left side of the cassette until you hear a click.

7.  Carefully guide the ribbon between the print head and the ribbon mask.

8.  Pull the right side of the cassette against the inside panel so that the   
    cassette is straight.  Then, press down  on the right side of the cas-
    sette until you hear a click.

9.  Turn the ribbon feed knob in the direction shown by the arrow to take up   
    slack in the ribbon.  Return the print head positioning control to its     
    original setting, as noted in Step 3.  Then, move the carriage from side   
    to side to check that the ribbon feeds properly.

10. Replace the front cover.
