DMP-204 (260-2883) Self Test Faxback Doc. # 4250 Running the Self Test: To check the printer's operation and print quality, we recommend you run the printer's self test before you connect it to your computer. This self-test function has two test modes, depending on the ribbon cassette you use--black test print or seven-color test print. Follow these steps to run the self test. 1. Check to be sure which type of ribbon cassette is in the printer, standard black or optional seven color. 2. Load standard 8 1/2" wide paper. CAUTION: The self test prints lines that are 8" long, so you must use 8 1/2" wide paper to protect the platen and print head. 3. Set POWER to OFF. 4a. Standard Black Color Test Print Press and hold LF/FF while you set POWER to ON. When printing begins, release LF/F. 4b. Optional Seven Color Test Print Press and hold PARK while you set POWER to ON. When printing begins, release PARK. The printer repeatedly prints characters--alternately in draft and letter-quality (LQ) modes. If you are performing the color test, the printer alternates the colors printed. 5. To end the self test, press ON/OFF LINE or turn off the printer. If some of the characters are blurred or if the printer is light, adjust the print head. If this does not correct the problem, try removing and re-installing the ribbon. (jlc-07/20/93)
