DMP-204 (26-2883) Paper Faxback Doc.# 4253 Install the paper rack for the type of paper you plan to use. Single-Sheet Paper: Slide the soundproof cover so the studs fit into the upper notches on the paper rack. Then install the paper rack over the printer's slits as shown, so the paper rack rests in a slanted position. Fanfold-Paper: Slide the soundproof cover so the studs fit into the lower notches on the paper rack. Then install the paper rack so the hinges on the paper rack engage with the notches on the printer. The rack rests horizontally, as shown. Loading Paper: The printer senses when the printer runs out of paper. Note: Printing without paper can damage the print head or the platen. Loading Single-Sheet Paper: Follow these steps to load single-sheet paper. 1. Be sure the paper rack and soundproof cover are in the correct position for single-sheet paper. 2. Move the paper selector to the single-sheet setting. 3. Set a sheet of paper on the paper rack and slide it down behind the platen until the paper cannot slide any farther. Do not turn the paper feed knob. Doing so prevents you from using the auto-load feature. 4. Adjust the left paper guide for the paper width you are using, but do not move it outside the range indicated by the square beneath it. The L in the range indicator shows the standard setting for letter-size (8.5" wide) paper. Position the paper so its left edge is against the left paper guide. Slide the right paper guide to the left until it touches the paper's right edge. CAUTION: Failure to properly position the paper between the guides can cause improper operation of the paper-out sensor or frequent paper jams. 5. Pull the paper bail lever toward the front of the printer. The paper advances to 1/2" ahead of the print-start position. Note: If the PAPER OUT indicator is on, remove the paper and load it again. 6. Push the paper bail lever toward the back of the printer so the bail is against the paper. The paper retracts to the print-start position. 7. To adjust the paper's horizontal alignment, set the paper selector to the fanfold setting and adjust the paper position. After you align the paper, set the paper selector back to the single-sheet setting. 8. To adjust the paper's vertical alignment, turn the paper feed knob or use the line feed feature to advance the paper. 9. Press ON/OFF LINE to set the printer on line. Loading Fanfold Paper: You can use 1-part or 2-part standard fanfold paper from 4 1/2 to 10" wide. Follow these steps to load fanfold paper. 1. Remove the paper rack. 2. Position the tractors to match the width of your paper. 3. Open the paper clamps. 4. Align the guide holes in the paper with the sprockets. 5. Close the paper clamps. If necessary, re-position the tractors until paper is flat. 6. Set the paper selector to the fanfold setting. 7. Pull the paper bail lever toward the front of the printer. The paper advances to the print-start position. Note: If the PAPER OUT indicator is on, remove the paper and load it again. 8. Push the paper bail lever toward the back of the printer so the paper bail is against the paper. 9. Install the paper rack and the soundproof cover in the position for fanfold paper. For proper flow, be sure to attach the paper rack so the paper feeds underneath it into the printer. 10. Press ON/OFF LINE to set the printer on line. Notes: * To prevent paper skewing or jamming, insert the paper into the printer directly from the back of the printer. * Do not let printed paper accumulate on top of unprinted paper. This could cause the paper to improperly feed and might damage the printer. Single-Sheet Printing when Fanfold Paper is loaded: To change from fanfold loading to single-sheet loading without removing the fanfold paper, do the following. 1. Remove any previously printed sheets of fanfold paper by tearing off the last sheet at its perforation. 2. Press ON/OFF LINE if the printer is on line. 3. Press PARK. The fanfold paper retracts to the parked position. 4. Set the paper rack and soundproof cover in position for single-sheet paper. 5. Move the paper selector lever toward the back of the printer. 6. Load single-sheet paper by using the auto-loading mechanism. 7. Set the printer on line. When you are ready to print on fanfold paper again, follow these simple steps: 1. Press ON/OFF LINE to set the printer off line. 2. Press and hold LF/FF to eject single-sheet paper. 3. Set the paper rack and soundproof cover to the fanfold paper position. 4. Move the paper selector lever toward the front of the printer. 5. Pull the paper bail lever toward the front of the printer. 6. Set the printer on line. Installing the Fanfold Paper Guide: To help fanfold paper easily slide over the back of the printer, install the fanfold paper guide as follows. 1. Tilt the fanfold paper guide so that guide's upper tabs hook into the slots in the printer's back panel. 2. Lower the paper guide until the guide's lower tabs snap into place. (jlc-07/20/93)
