DMP-240 (260-2839) Ribbon Faxback Doc. # 4357 Black Fabric (260-2824) Color Fabric (260-2826) If the ribbon cassette is already installed, simply check to see that it is properly threaded between the ribbon mask and the print head. To install the optional color ribbon, see chapter 5, "Enhancing Your DMP-240". If the standard ribbon cassette is not installed, or if you need to replace it due to excessive wear or faint printing, follow this procedure: 1. Turn off the power switch. NOTE: When you turn off the power, any information stored in the printer's buffer is automatically lost. 2. While facing the front of the printer, lift up the back edge of the top cover and tilt it toward you. Open the front half of the top cover by lifting it toward you. Then, lift the top cover straight up to remove it. 3. Move the print head to the middle of the exposed ribbon. WARNING: The print head gets very hot during extended periods of printing. Be sure to let the print head cool off before you touch it. 4. Remove the old ribbon cassette by gently pulling it upward. 5. Unwrap the new cassette. Before inserting the new cassette, tighten the ribbon by turning the ribbon feed knob in the direction indicated by the arrow. 6. Hold the ribbon cassette with the ribbon feed knob facing up. 7. Place the flat end into the ribbon plate until it snaps into place. Then, thread thee ribbon between the ribbon mask (thin steel plate) and the print head. Be careful not to get the ribbon between the ribbon mask and the paper guide (black plate). 8. Turn the ribbon feed knob in the direction indicated by the arrow to take up the slack in the ribbon. 9. Replace the top cover. Insert the two tabs into the notches on top of the printer. Gently lower the front half and then the back half of the top cover. CAUTION: Printing without paper or ribbon can damage the print head or platen. (css 07/27/93)
