To activate a given function, turn on the prin- ter while holding down the indicated keys: LF/FF/JUMP - Self-test ONLINE and LF/FF/JUMP - Printing alignment test (H pattern) SELECT/QUICK - Hex dump Press ON LINE to stop test printing. Press ON LINE again to start test printing again. Turn off the printer to exit the test mode. SELF TEST You can check the print quality and general printer operation before you begin using the printer. If the color motor and color ribbon are installed and the appropriate settings are selected, you can also check color print- ing. Before running the self-test, be sure to load the printer with paper that is at least eight inches wide. This prevents printing on the platen because the test prints lines that cover a width of eight inches. CAUTION: Printing on the platen can shorten the life of the platen can shorten the life of the platen and the print head. The printer prints one full page of the ASCII 96 characters in the various fonts programmed into the printer (until it detects a paper out condition). The display shows TEST/SLIDE during printing. PRINTING ALIGNMENT TEST You can check the printing alignment by printing repetitions of the charac- ter H. The display shows TEST/MAINTE during printing. HEX DUMP When the printer enters the hex dump mode, the display show TEST/HEX DUMP. If data is received from the computer in this mode, the printer dumps the data in hexadecimal.
