DMP-134 (260-2848) Selftest Faxback Doc. # 4529 PERFORMING A SELF TEST The printer has a built-in test feature to check the print quality and general printer operation before you begin using it. This test does not, however, check the printer port. Before running the self test, be sure to load the printer with 10-inch wide paper since the test prints from one end of the platen to the other. CAUTION: Printing on the platen can shorten the life of the platen and the print head. To run the self test: 1. Be sure that the printer is turned off. 2. Press and hold either the LF button or NLQ button. (See "Basic Controls.") 3. Turn on the printer. When you hear the beep, release the switch. The printer prints the 96 ASCII characters preprogrammed into the printer. If you press LF, the self test is performed in the standard font. The correspondence quality is used during the test when the NLQ button is being pressed. Printing continues until you press the ON/OFF LINE button. Press the ON/OFF LINE button again to resume the test. To finish the self test, turn off the printer. (dtc-07/26/93)
