DMP 2200 (260-1279) Self-Test Faxback Doc. # 4559 The DMP-2200 has two kinds of built-in self test features which let you check printing quality and general printer operation before you connect the Printer to your computer. One is printing all the characters (self test 1), the other is a carriage moving test (self test 2). this is a good time to check that the print head is adjusted properly (printing is neither too faint nor smudged) and that paper is feeding smoothly. Before running the self test, always be sure to load the DMP-2200 with 15 inch wide paper since the test prints from one end of the platen to the other. Printing on the platen can shorten the life of the platen and the print head. To run the self test: Self Test 1 1. Plug the Printer into an AC power outlet and load the paper. 2. Press and hold the LINE FEED switch. 3. Set the POWER ON/OFF switch to ON. The Printer will begin by printing the version number of ROMs, followed all characters according to the setting of DIP switches A-3, 4, 5, and 6. 4. Printing will continue until you turn the power OFF. Self Test 2 Self test 2 allows you to check that the carriage moves freely from one end of the platen to the other, and that the platen is turning properly. The character "H" is printed continuously during this test. 1. Plug the Printer into an AC power outlet and load the Paper. 2. Press and hold the FORM FEED switch while setting the POWER switch to ON. The carriage will move back and forth with continuous printing of the character "H", while performing a line feed at the end of each line. This "H" character font style is selected by DIP switches A-4,5, and 6. 3. Turn the power OFF to end the self test. (dtc-07/26/93)
