LP 990 (260-2879) Unpacking/Shipping Instructions Faxback Doc. # 4672 PREPARATION Unpack and install the printer as described in this section. Carefully unpack the printer and remove the tape and cardboard stopper used to secure the printer during shipment. Also, slide out the paper tray and remove the packing tape that holds down the metal pressure plate. NOTE: You must purchase a printer cable to connect the printer to your computer. Before you begin installation, see "Connecting to Your Computer and to Power" to determine which printer cable you need. PACKAGE CONTENTS * Technical Reference Manual * Power Cord * Developer Cartridge * Toner Cartridge * OPC Cartridge * Toner-Collecting Container * Roller Cleaner * Corona Cleaner * Letter-Size Cassette Tray (Installed in Printer) Be sure the package includes the items shown. If anything is missing, contact your Radio Shack store. Store the corona cleaner in a safe place so that it is available when you need to clean the corona wires. CAUTION: Some of the parts are shipped in protective bags. Do not remove any part from its bag until you are ready to install that part. CHOOSING A LOCATION Consider the following when you choose a location for the printer: * Place the printer on a sturdy, level table or desk. * Be sure the printer's power cord can reach a properly grounded, 120-volt AC outlet. * Be sure the printer is close enough to the computer to connect it with the printer cable you buy. Printer cables are available in 6 and 12 foot lengths. * Install the printer away from moisture, direct sunlight, dusty or poorly ventilated areas, or locations with extreme temperature changes. * Be sure there is room around the printer for adequate ventilation and for loading the paper tray. SHIPPING INSTRUCTIONS Follow this procedure when transporting or shipping the LP-990. 1. Press the upper unit release button to open the printer. 2. Remove the toner, developer, and OPC cartridges and the toner collecting container. NOTE: Any time you remove the OPC cartridge from the printer, you must put it in the black plastic bag included with the original packing materials. This is to prevent the OPC from being overexposed to ambient light. 3. Remove the paper from the paper cassette and secure the pressure plate with tape. 4. Close the printer. 5. Pack the printer, reversing the order of the unpacking instructions in the LP-990 Laser Printer User's Guide. NOTES: * When returning the printer for repair, include: A) A written explanation of the problem encountered. B) Any print samples that might help in diagnosing the problem. * Do not include any cartridges (toner, developer, or OPC) or the toner collecting container when returning the printer for servicing, unless specifically requested by TANDY.
