DMP 310 (260-2876) Power Options Faxback Doc. # 4703 You can use the supplied, factory-installed AC power pack to power the printer from a standard AC outlet. For portable operation, you can remove the AC power pack and use battery power. Battery power requires a battery holder, two nickel-cadmium batteries, and a battery charger. These are not supplied. USING AC POWER The AC power pack is installed at the factory. If you remove and re-install the AC power pack, be sure it clicks into place. CAUTIONS: * Never install or remove the AC power pack while it is plugged in. * Before you plug in the AC power cord, be sure POWER is set to O (off) and the printer is not connected to the computer. * Plug the power cord into a 110-volt, properly grounded, AC outlet or approved power strip, such as Radio Shack's Plug-In Power Strip (26-1396) or Power Switching System (26-203). Check your computer's owner's manual for information about the use of a power strip. USING BATTERY POWER For portable operation, you can power the printer from two nickel-cadmium batteries (23-230). You must install the batteries in a custom battery holder (26-2877). Before you can power the printer from batteries, you must charge the batteries. This requires a nickel-cadmium battery charger (23-231). INSTALLING THE BATTERIES After you charge the batteries, follow these steps to install them. 1. Set POWER to O (off) and unplug the AC power pack's power cord. CAUTION: Never install or remove the AC power pack while it is plugged into a power outlet. 2. Pull down the AC power pack release so that the power pack pops out. Then, slide out the AC power pack. NOTE: Store the power pack in a low-humidity, clean place where it is not exposed to direct sunlight. 3. Then, insert the batteries into the holder and attach the batteries' connectors to the holder's connectors. 4. Slide the battery holder into the printer. Be sure it clicks into place. LOW-BATTERY INDICATOR When battery power becomes low, the POWER indicator rapidly flashes. When this happens, recharge the batteries. STANDBY FEATURE The standby feature lets you conserve battery power by putting the printer in the standby mode after 10 minutes of non-use. (The printer does not enter the standby mode when you power the printer from an AC outlet). When the printer enters the standby mode, the POWER indicator slowly flashes. The printer automatically exits the standby mode when you print. The STANDBY MODE function switch on the bottom of the printer determines whether the standby feature is on or off. STANDBY MODE is set to ON at the factory. If you change the STANDBY MODE setting, you must turn off the printer and turn it back on so that the printer recognizes the new setting. Remember to leave the printer turned off for at least 3 seconds before you turn it back on. (dkh-07/27/93)
