1200 BPs Internal Modem (250-1013E) Installation Faxback Doc. # 4753 INSTALLING THE MODEM BOARD Your modem is designed for easy installation in any compatible computer. Because of its small size, the modem fits in both short and standard-length expansion slots. NOTE: Before you install (or remove) the modem board or any other circuit boards in your computer, be sure that the computer power switch is off. To install the modem board: 1. Avoid static electricity buildup which can destroy certain integrated circuits. To do this, touch a grounded metal object (such as the computer chassis) while handling the modem (or any other circuit boards). Do not stand on a carpeted floor while installing the modem. 2. Remove the screws securing the computer's cover and slide the cover off to open the computer. Save these screws so that you can replace the computer cover at the end of installation. 3. Select the expansion slot into which you want to install the modem. Your modem board can fit in either a half- or full-card expansion slot. To remove the expansion slot's back panel bracket, take out its fastening screw and lift the bracket straight out. Save the screw for attaching the modem board. 4. Insert the modem board into the expansion slot. Fasten the board to the computer using the screw you removed in step 3. 5. Replace the computer cover and secure it with the screws previously removed. 6. Connect one end of the modular phone cable supplied with the modem to either of the two modular phone connectors on the modem. 7. Connect the other end of the modular phone cable to the phone jack on your wall. NOTE: You can connect your standard telephone to the second jack on the back of the modem. This jack is provided for your convenience so that you can continue to use your telephone normally. As long as you leave your modem and phone connected, you can continue to use your telephone even when your computer is turned off. (dkh-07/28/93)
