20 MB Hard Drive (250-3515) Prep Program Faxback Doc. # 4797 USING THE PREP SOFTWARE PREP is a low level format program (located on utilities diskette) used to prepare the LiteDrive for usage in the Tandy 1400 LT. The PREP program has already been executed once on the LiteDrive before it was shipped out of the factory. As such, you DO NOT NEED TO USE THE PREP PROGRAM. You would need to use the PREP program if you need to change any default values on the LiteDrive. The same can be done with HSECT. 1. At the A> prompt type "PREP" and . This will load the program. You will then see 4 boxes on the screen. 3 of them, "A, B, & C" display different functions and sets of parameters. Box D contains program comments to assist the user. Each box in the first screen represents the following: BOX A is the command box. By using the arrow keys, you can move the highlighted cursor to different commands and select each operation in this program. BOX B shows the drive parameters and default setup. This Box shows the interleave size, drive type number, heads, cylinders, etc. BOX C is the media defect box. This box displays the list of defective defective cylinders for each head location. Extra blank entry points for further additions are provided on the label affixed to the Lite- Drive. Any defects found by during the initial "PREPPING" will be shown automatically in this box. BOX D is the comment box. This section contains help messages briefly explaining the function and Current status of each operation. 2. By using the A command box and pressing ENTER, you may select one of 6 operations: PREPARE LiteDrive: This option will be described in detail later. MEDIA DEFECTS: This option allows you to examine and modify the list of media defects. INTERLEAVE: The interleave factor determines the distance between the sectors on the drive. DRIVE OFF DELAY: This option allows you to specify the number of seconds (in multiples of 7) in which the computer will turn off the power to the LiteDrive. ABORT OPERATION: Selection of this option will return you to DOS. SAVE CONFIGURATION: This will save the configuration of the drive. PREPARE LiteDrive By selecting "PREPARE LiteDrive" and pressing ENTER you will start the prep operation. After you press ENTER, you will notice the following statement in the comment box: THIS WILL DESTROY ALL DATA ON THE HARD DISK AND THERE IS DATA ON THE DISK, ARE YOU SURE YOU ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING [Y/N]? If you press "N" or NO, you will return to the previous screen. If you press "Y" for Yes. If you type "Y", you will start the PREP program. Please understand that once the program begins and starts prepping the drive, YOU WILL LOSE ALL DATA. After the PREP program is finished, the following statement will appear: Press CTRL-ALT-DEL to reboot the computer. (dkh-07/29/93)
