To use the fax-mode, you must use the Quick Link II software. When you use the FAX/Modem as a data modem, use any communications software package. This documentation covers the basics of how to operate the FAX/Modem in the data/fax-mode using Quick Line II. However, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the Quick Link II owner's manual. Installing Quick Link II on your Hard Drive: 1. Place the Quick Link II diskette into drive A: 2. At the A> prompt, type: Install . 3. Follow all prompts as directed by the software. Quick Link II creates the QL2FAX directory. Operating with Quick Link II: 1. At the C> prompt type: CD \QL2FAX QL2FAX 2. The Quick Link II menu screen appears. If this is the first time you have used Quick Link II, the computer prompts for setup information. After you find the type of monitor you are using, the Quick Link II Menu Bar appears at the top of the screen. 3. The program prompts you to enter the COM port for the Fax/Modem. Use the up and down arrow keys to select the correct COM port and press . The default for most Tandy laptops is COM 2. Check your computer's user's guide for more information on COM ports. 4. The Quick Link II Fax dialog box appears in the center of your screen. After you review the Quick Help information, press to remove the copyright box from the screen. Internal Fax/Modem for Laptops (25-3532) Setting up for Fax Operation: Follow these steps to prepare the modem for fax operation: 1. Press for Set Up Options. 2. Use the down arrow key to highlight either "Send Fax Set Up" or "Receive Fax Set Up" and press . 3. Enter the Fax Set Up information. Use to highlight and enter the information. Press the to toggle the Check Box menu on or off. 4. to highlight Save Menu and press . The OK box should now be highlighted. Press . Converting Documents to Fax Format: Quick Link II can convert and prepare non-fax documents. Quick Link II converts the following types of documents: TEXT PCX TIFF DCX IMG CUT MacPaint BMP When a file is converted to fax format, Quick Link II assigns the extension .QFX to the fax document. To convert the above types of documents, use the following steps: 1. Press for the Fax Menu. Use the down arrow key to select Convert Documents and press . 2. The Fax Out and Export boxes appear. With Fax Out highlighted, press . The Fax Document Conversion screen appears. 3. Type the directory or sub-directory in which the document you want to send resides and press . 4. Once you are in the appropriate directory, press . You can now access the document you want to convert. Using the down arrow key, high- light the file to be converted and press . 5. The "Fax Document Type" screen appears. Use the arrow key to select the file type. to the OK box and press ENTER. The Fax Document Conversion screen appears. to OK and press . The Document Conversion Box appears to indicate that the conversion is occurring. Sending a Fax: Follow these steps to send a Fax: 1. Press the keys for the Fax Menu. The Send Fax Option is now highlighted. Press and the Fax Document Conversion Screen appears. 2. Type the directory or sub-directory in which the document you want to send resides. 3. Once you are in the appropriate directory, press TAB. You can now access the document you want to fax. 4. Using the down arrow key, highlight the document you want to fax and press . 5. Using the key, highlight the OK option. Press , the Fax Dialer box appears. If the file has not yet been converted, QL2FAX software con- verts the file prior to displaying the Fax Dialer Box. Enter the phone number of the remote fax machine. to the dial option and press . 6. The screen titled Send Fax Information appears. Fill in the appropriate information for the person or company that is to receive the fax. Tab to the OK option and press . The Send Fax screen appears. The software prepares the fax and starts dialing. Throughout the dialing and sending process, the software reports the status of the transmission. At the end of the transmission, the software automatically terminates the call. Setting up to Receive a Fax: Follow these steps to prepare to receive a fax: 1. Press the key for the Fax Menu. 2. Use the down arrow key to select "Load Receive Fax" and press . A message box will appear prompting you to "Please wait...". Quick Link II will configure the fax/modem for preparation to receive a fax. Once completed, Quick Link II will return to the Menu bar. The Fax/Modem is now ready to receive an incoming fax.
