2400 BPS Internal Modem (25-3025) Installation Faxback Doc. # 4923 Installation Information: Preparing the PC: Power to the PC must be turned off before proceeding with the rest of the installation. You should unplug the computer from the wall. It is not sufficient to merely turn off the power switch. Refer to your PC Owner's Manual for the proper procedure. After the PC is powered down, remove its cover by removing screws on the side or the back of the computer. Save these screws to reinstall the cover at the end of the installation. Slide the cover off. Choosing and Preparing the Expansion Slot: Choose the expansion slot that you would like to use. The modem will work in any available expansion slot. Remove the rear slot panel cover for the expansion slot that you chose by removing the screw at the top that holds it down and then lifting the cover straight up. Remove the screw and save it for securing the modem board bracket later. Installation of the Modem Board: Plug the modem into the expansion slot that you prepared in Step 2. Although the modem fits in a half-height slot of the PC, it may be installed in a full-card slot if desired. After it is plugged in, fasten the board to the PC using the screw that you removed earlier. Telephone Line Connection: The two modular phone jacks on the modem are interchangeable. Use either jack to connect the modem to the telephone wall jack. You may use the other jack to connect a tone or rotary dial phone, but a phone is not required for use of the modem. (css 07/28/93)
