40 MB Internal Hard Drive (250-4061) Initialize Faxback Doc. # 4974 INITIALIZATION INSTRUCTIONS The 40 MB Internal Hard Disk Drive is a non-standard drive (as defined on page 29 of the Tandy 3000 Operation and Installation Manual). Use the follow- ing procedure to initialize your hard disk drive. This procedure is valid only for the 40 MB Internal Hard Disk Drive. Do not use this procedure for any other hard disk drive. 1. Boot the Utilities diskette. The utilities menu appears. To choose the Setup utility, type: 4 [ENTER]. 2. Answer the prompts for your system parameters. When the Setup utility prompts you for the drive type of Fixed disk Drive C (D for a secondary hard disk drive), type: 11 [ENTER]. 3. After you complete the setup, reboot the Utilities diskette. The utilities menu re-appears. To choose the Format Hard Disk utility, type: 5 [ENTER]. 4. When prompted for the hard disk or D [ENTER] for the secondary hard disk. Type Y [ENTER] to continue. 5. When the Format Hard Disk utility displays the hard disk parameters (drive type 11,5 heads, 855 cylinders) and asks you whether they are correct, type N [ENTER]. When prompted for the correct parameters, enter the number of heads and cylinders shown on the "Factory Detected" error map that comes with your hard disk drive. Use the default interleave factor. 6. After you correct the parameters and flag any defective tracks, press [ENTER] to begin the format. When the format is complete, you can follow the normal procedure to install an operating system on your hard disk drive. Refer to your operating system documentation for instructions. NOTE: MS-DOS Version 03.20.00 is limited to a maximum hard disk partition size of 32 MB. To use all 40 megabytes of storage on your hard disk drive, you must use the MSFORMAT and MLPART commands and the MLPART.SYS device driver. Refer to the appropriate sections of your Tandy 3000 MS-DOS Reference Manual for more information. (css 07/29/93)
