2400 BPS External Modem (250-3026) Fuse Faxback Doc. # 5030 Fuse Replacement Information: If your modem stops working completely, and none of the status lights are on, check first to see that the power cube is plugged in, and check the power switch on the back of the modem to be sure that it hasn't been accidentally turned off. If the power cube is plugged in and the switch is on, you should check the fuse. The fuse is located inside the modem case, so to check it and replace it (if necessary) you'll have to remove the case's cover. Removing the Modem's Cover: Unplug the power supply cord, phone cords and serial cable from the modem. Place the modem flat on a table in front of your, with the front (the side with the lights) facing toward you. Raise the back of the modem (the side with the jacks and switches) off the table slightly, grasping it on top with your thumbs. Getting a good grip on the sides, pull them away from the base, allowing the base to fall away from the cover. Checking, Removing, and Replacing the Fuse: The fuse is located near the power switch. It should have one continuous wire connected from one end to the other. If the fuse is blown, replace it. If the fuse is good, make sure that there is power at the outlet where your power cube is plugged in. If there is power, the power cube itself may be faulty. To remove the old fuse, put a small screwdriver or pencil under the glass part of the fuse and pry it upwards from the two end clips. Push the new fuse back into the clips. The fuse is an "International" type, 5 x 20 mm, 2 amps. Use a normal fast-acting type fuse, such as (270-1244), rather than a "slow-blow" fuse. Replacing the Modem's Cover: Place the base flat on a table, with the back of the modem (the side with the jacks) facing you. Carefully line up the cover with the base. Be sure that the top and bottom of the case are in line, and that the back panel is inside the border of the case top. Press the top down with your thumbs, first in the front (where the lights are), and then in the back. The case should snap together easily. Don't force it. (smm 07/28/93)
