1.  Turn off the 1400 Laptop Computer and any peripherals connected to it.
    Disconnect any cables from the computer.  Position the computer so the
    rear is toward you.

2.  Remove the two small phillips screws that hold the cover plate in place
    over the modem option slot and remove the cover plate.  Store the cover
    plate in a safe place in case you should remove the modem.

3.  Insert the modem into the expansion slot, carefully aligning the printed
    circuit card edges into the card guides.

    NOTE:  The modem components must be facing upward toward the top of the
    computer.

4.  Press the card in gently until its connector is fully seated and the mo-
    dem's rear panel is resting against the metal rear panel of the computer.

5.  Secure the card with the two phillips screws previously removed.  The 
    computer is now ready to use, along with the internal modem.

6.  Removal:  If for any reason you remove the modem, be sure to cover the 
    opening with the cover plate (and secure it with the screws).
