2400 BPS Internal Modem (250-3538) Installations Faxback Doc. # 5101 INSTALLING THE MODEM The following steps explain how to install the modem in your computer. Follow these instructions carefully. CAUTION: Before installing or removing boards in your computer, be sure to remove power from the computer. Never insert or remove the modem with the power turned on. Disconnect all power cords. Be sure to disconnect the telephone cable from the modem and remove any diskette from the computer. 1. Turn the computer so the computer's back panel faces you. 2. Open the back cover and remove the top cover. 3. Disconnect and remove the internal battery. 4. Remove the three screws that hold the top and rear metal covers in place. 5. Insert the supplied flat cable in the cable connector inside the computer with the colored stripe facing you. When properly seated in the connector, the colored stripe is not visible. 6. Thread the flat cable through the back opening. Do not twist the cable. 7. Press the cable into the modem's connector. When properly seated in the connector, the cable's metal contacts are barely visible. 8. Slide the modem into the computer, guiding the flat cable so that it folds under the modem. Align the modem bracket holes with the holes on the computer's back panel. Secure the modem with the screws removed in Step 3. 9. Secure the top metal cover in place and replace the top plastic cover. 10. Replace and reconnect the internal battery. 11. Plug your telephone cable into either of the modular connectors on the back of the modem. You can plug a telephone into the other jack. (abo-07/28/93)
