The memory board plugs into one of the slots on the computer's main circuit board. NOTE: The PLUS 1200 Baud Modem can also be connected to the PLUS Upgrade Adapter Board (Cat # 25-1016). 1. Turn off and disconnect all equipment from your computer. Wait at least 10 seconds. 2. If the memory board is already installed, remove the screw that fastens it to the computer. Grasp the upper edge of the board to pull it away from the pin socket on the computer's main logic board. NOTE: If you plan to install additional memory, you might need to remove the jumper on the memory board and add memory IC's. If so, do this now to avoid removing the PLUS 1200 Baud Modem later. See the memory board's installation guide to reconfigure the jumper and install the IC's. 3. The memory board comes with a metal bracket. To install the PLUS 1200 Baud Modem, use the bracket packaged with it (Bracket A). Remove the two screws securing the bracket to the memory board. Remove the bracket and save it. Save the screws to install Bracket A. 4. Use the bracket screws to fasten Bracket A to the memory board as shown in the illustration below. 5. The three nylon stand-offs packaged with the PLUS 1200 Baud Modem support it when it is connected to the memory board. Insert each stand- off into the holes on the PLUS 1200 Baud Modem. 6. Before connecting the PLUS 1200 Baud Modem to the memory board, make sure that the phone jacks are positioned to fit in the cutout on Bracket A. Place the pin socket on the PLUS 1200 Baud Modem over the row of pins on the memory board. Make sure the pins are accurately inserted into the socket. NOTE: If you encounter any resistance when placing the socket over the pins, STOP. Do not force the socket onto the pins. A pin may be bent, in which case you will want to contact a Radio Shack repair technician. 7. Gently snap the free ends of the stand-offs into their corresponding holes on the memory board. 8. Use the two 6-32 x 1/4" bracket screws (The larger screws packaged with the PC Modem) to fasten the PLUS 1200 Baud Modem to Bracket A as illust- rated above. CONNECTING THE COMBINATION BOARD TO THE MAIN LOGIC BOARD After combining the PLUS 1200 Baud Modem and the memory board, you are ready to attach that "Combination Board" to the computer's main logic board. 1. Turn off and disconnect all equipment from your computer. Wait at least 10 seconds. 2. Touch a grounded metal object before beginning installation to discharge any static electricity. Do NOT stand on a carpeted floor. 3. Remove the screws that fasten the computer cover. Slide the cover toward the front of the computer to remove it. 4. Facing the computer's rear panel, select an expansion slot and remove the screw that fastens the slot cover. (Save the slot cover and screw.) 5. On the main logic board, directly behind the slot cover, is a thin edge connector socket. Looking from the back of the computer, there is a small, multi-pronged metal connector in the upper right corner of the main circuit board. If there is no connector, remove the short wire attached to the corner of the memory board. If the connector is there, DO NOT remove the wire. You will connect it in step 8. 6. Grasp the Combination Board by its upper edges and position it above the edge connector socket on the main logic board. Insert the Combination Board's bracket into the slot as shown in the illustration. Gently press the edge connector into the socket. 7. Align the Combination Board's bracket so that the cutout is positioned over the screw hole. Replace the screw you removed earlier. Do not overtighten it. 8. If you did not remove the wire mentioned in Step 5, fasten the free end of it to one prong of the multi-pronged connector. 9. Replace and fasten the computer's cover.
