WP-101 (260-3970) Typtes Of Memory Faxback Doc. # 5196 The big difference between a typewriter and your WP-101 is that the WP-101 remembers what you typed in. This is managed by several different types of memory. WORK MEMORY Work memory is the temporary memory for creating or editing text. This memory can store up to 24,000 characters. After you turn off the word processor, the text in the work memory is cleared. See "Store Memory" on the next page for more information on saving your text. COPY/MOVE MEMORY This is actually part of the word memory. When you delete or copy text, it is stored in this temporary memory. Even after you insert the copied text into its correct position, it remains in the copy/move memory until you delete or copy another block of text. Thus, you can insert the copied text as many times as you like. Note that when the work memory is for copying text. When this condition exists, a warning message appears on the display if you try to copy. See "Copy" or "Move Text" in the "Text Issues" section of "Tasks and Topics." UNDELETE BUFFER Much like the copy/move memory, the undelete buffer stores text that you have deleted. However, when you use the undelete function to recover the deleted. However, when you use the undelete function to recover the deleted text, the undelete buffer empties its contents onto the display and remains empty until you delete another block of text. Note that when the work memory is at two percent or below, the undelete buffer does not function and nor warning message appears. See "Undelete" in the "Text Issues" section of "Tasks and Topics." STORE MEMORY The store memory is where you store your documents. The WP-101 has two types of store memory--built-in memory and the optional card memory (260-3971). * Built-in memory inside the WP-101 holds up to 113,600 characters divided into a maximum of 64 separate files. The built-in battery protects all the files stored in the built-in memory for about 5 years, even if you turn off the WP-101. * Card Memory is used like a diskette. One card holds up to 31,700 characters divided into a maximum of 62 separate files. The card battery protects the files stored in the card memory and for about 5 years. When you use the card memory, insert it into the card memory slot on the left side of the WP-101. You will find more information about the card memory and the card battery in the "Card Memory" section of "A Practical Guide." NOTE: Before using a new card memory, you must install the card battery supplied and initialize the card memory. See "Battery" file. To switch between the built-in and card memories use <- or -> at the store memory selection window in the menu display. (css 08/04/93)
