As the cursor moves, the numbers in the column counter and line counter change to show the current cursor posi- tion. USING THE CURSOR CONTROL KEYS The arrow keys on the lower right edge of the keyboard are cursor control keys. With these keys, you can move the cursor one position in any direction. Press and hold an arrow key to repeat the movement of the cursor in the direction of that particular arrow. USING THE CODE AND ALTERNATE KEYS Notice that the number and some of the character keys have dark gray and/or blue markings on the keys beside the normal alphanumeric characters. Almost every key on the top row also has a function name above it. These markings indicate that a key does a special function when you press it together with CODE (functions in blue) or ALT (functions in dark gray). Note also that the ten function keys on both sides of the keyboard likewise have "blue" func- tions that are associated with CODE. To select a CODE or ALT function, press and hold either CODE or ALT, and then press the key for the function. For example, the key sequence ALT + S activates the spell doc function. The key sequence CODE + S activates the spell word function. Notice that the keys in the top row have special characters. To type these, use the ALT key combination. For example, to enter <, press ALT + 7. TURNING OFF THE WP-101 When you finish typing, if you want to keep a file for future use, save the text to the store memory. Refer to "Save Text" in the "File Issues" section of "Tasks and Topics." If you do not save your file, you lose the text in the word memory when you turn off the WP-101. CAUTION: Do not turn off the WP-101 or remove the card memory while the store memory operation is in progress. It might damage the contents of the store memory. When store memory operations are complete, turn off the WP-101. After you turn off the word processor: 1. Lower the display. 2. Pull the paper support panel down to its original position. Be sure to press down on the right and left edges of this panel to snap it into place. 3. Replace the keyboard/display cover. This simple procedure will protect the WP-101 from dust and dirt while you are not using it. TRANSPORTING THE WP-101 Before you move your WP-101 to a new location: 1. Turn off the WP-101 and unplug it. Then, manually move the print head to the right end of the carriage. 2. Install the print head guard that you removed before you used your word processor. Then, press down on the handle until it snaps over the rod next to the print head. This guard prevents side-to-side shifting of the print head. 3. Push the display down to its lowest position. 4. Replace the keyboard/display cover. 5. Lower the paper support panel. 6. Open the cord compartment cover. 7. Fold the power cord into the cord compartment. 8. Close the cord compartment cover. 9.
