FAX/MODEM Software MTEZ Installation Faxback Doc. # 5208 ExpressFax is a full featured send and receive fax software package. Once automatically installed in your MTEZ program directory, this module will work seamlessly with MTEZ, giving fax capabilities to MTEZ and any other CAS compatible applications. CAS (Communications Applications Specification) was co-developed by Digital Communications Associates, Inc. and Intel Corporation to create a standardized programming interface for the sending of fax information. The CAS specification makes it easier for software developers to add fax functions to their software packages. ExpressFax's CAS Manager TSR (FAXMAN) provides a CAS interface, required by the CAS specification, allowing third party software applications to send and receive faxes from within their software packages. Once you have started Faxman, you can send and receive faxes from any CAS compatible software application. MTEZ with ExpressFax is a CAS application, and has to be used with the CAS manager (FAXMAN). Some third party software applications which include a fax function, that utilize a CAS application, include PC Tools, ACT, and PC Paintbrush, to name a few. FAXMAN will give you the capability to end faxes utilizing the fax function directly from within these third party software packages. The CAS manager (FAXMAN) must be installed before you can do any fax functions from MTEZ. It will take as little as 15K of conventional memory. By modifying your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, you can have FAXMAN automatically started each time you turn your computer on. INSTALLATION The MTEZ installation routine installs all of the MTEZ and ExpressFax programs and files. After the installation is complete, the CAS setup routine (SETUP.EXE) is executed. The next section of this manual takes you through the CAS setup function. CAS Setup Before you can begin sending and receiving faxes you must make a few selection and specifications within the CAS Setup Utility. The syntax of the setup utility follows: SETUP [d:\path\name] Where: d:\path\name Specifies the drive, path and filename to be used for this configuration file. This allows you to create a different configuration file for each fax/data modem you may own. Your Name This specifies the default FROM name used on the header of the fax pages. Fax Number Defines the ID sent to the other fax machine (CSID) for your fax/data modem. A CSID is usually a recognizable string such as your fax phone number or department name. Logo File Specifies the .PCX file to be used on the cover page automatically generated by the CAS manager. ExpressFax uses an internal cover page generation utility, and does not use this information. Consult the CAS specification for more details about cover pages. Highest Fax Allows the setting of the maximum bps speed to be used by Speed the fax machine in CAS manager. Answer on Sets the number of rings before the CAS manager will answer Ring the phone. Setting this value to 0 will turn OFF the receive capabilities of the fax card, telling FAXMAN to never answer the phoneline. A value of 4 will give you the chance to pick up the phone before the fax machine answers Speaker Specifies if and how long the modem speaker will be on Setting during calling and receiving faxes. By pressing [Space] you will be taken through each of the possible selections. The following values are possible: On Until The speaker will sound during the dialing sequence, and Connect will emit the fax sounds until a connection is made between the fax machines. (Default) Always On The speaker will make all fax sounds. This setting is rather irritating unless there is a special reason that you want to hear all the fax tones. Off While The speaker will be silent through the dialing sequence. Dialing Once the dialing has completed, the ringing and connection sounds will be emitted. Once the faxes connect, the speaker will turn off. Always Off The speaker will not make any sounds. Call Progress Sets how much call progress information is to be returned from the fax modem, to the CAS manager. Some overseas telephone systems work better when No Call Progress is selected. Dial Method Sets whether to use touch tones, or pulse dialing when calling other fax machines. Max No. Specifies the maximum number of times that a submitted Retries event will be retried before it fails. After the maximum number is reached, the event will be moved to the log queue. See the Log Manager for more information about resending a failed fax. Retry Timeout Specifies the time in minutes between each retry attempt. During the retry timeout, other CAS events can occur. A long timeout value will not tie up the CAS manager. Wait for Specifies how many seconds after the dialing is completed Carrier to wait for the fax machine to answer. For international dialing, this value may have to be extended to around 90 seconds. EMS Usage This option allows you to specify if EMS memory should be used. By pressing [Space] you will be taken though each of the possible selections. Use if If you have EMS in your computer, and there is at least 48K Available free at the time CAS manager is started, the CAS manager will use around 15K of conventional memory, and 48K of EMS. Do not use EMS Specifies that the CAS manager should not even look to see if EMS is available. Hardware This is the name of the driver for your fax/data modem. Driver Optional At the time of this printing there are no optional Parameters parameters for any of the hardware drivers. Please leave this line blank. COM Port The setup program has the standard COM1 through COM4 addresses built in. The COM Port can be selected by pressing [Space] until the correct value is displayed. If you have a hybrid setting (non-standard combination of base and IRQ), you can select the COM Port value of USER. Once you have selected USER for the COM Port, by pressing [ENTER] you can now edit the Base and IRQ values. Be very careful to set these values to the same ones that you set on your modem. Consult your modem manual, or your modem manufacturer for possible Base and IRQ values. Not all modems allow hybrid Base and IRQ settings. (dtc-07/30/93)
