9600 BPS Faxmodem (250-3029) Installation Faxback Doc. # 5221 INSTALLING THE FAX/MODEM BOARD IN YOUR COMPUTER Before installing any board in your computer, you must disconnect all power and interface cables from the computer and move your computer to a static-free work area. Then, discharge any static buildup by touching a grounded metal object. Never power your computer when you have removed its case or when inserting or removing option boards. This procedure involves removing the computer's case. If, after reading these instructions, you do not feel confident about your ability to install the modem, have a qualified service center install the modem for you. Note: Service centers may charge for the installation of the modem. To install your modem: 1. Remove the screws that secure the computer's case and slide the cover off to open the computer. Save these screws. 2. Select the expansion slot into which you want to install the modem. Your modem card fits in either half- or full-card slots. Remove the slot cover by removing its holding screw and lifting out the cover. 3. Press the modem into the expansion slot. Secure the modem using the same screw you removed in step 2. Replace the computer case and secure it with the same screws you removed in Step 1. 4. Reconnect all interface cables for other peripherals. Then, reconnect your computer's power cable. 7. Connect one end of the modular phone cable to a modular phone jack. 8. Connect the other end of the modular phone cable to either of the modem's two modular phone connectors. You may also plug your phone into your fax/modem; that is the purpose of the second jack on the back of the fax/modem. Your phone will operate normally, although you should avoid picking up the handset during either a fax transmission or modem connection as this will introduce errors into the transmission and may break connection.
