Before you can use the CD-ROM drive, you must reset your computer. Simply
press RESET or <CTRL>+<ALT>+<DEL>.

If error messages appear during start up, confirm that you properly
installed the CD-ROM hardware and software.

Loading a CD:

Follow these steps to load a CD.

1. Remove the protective film from the caddy.
2. Press the tabs on both sides of the caddy to open the lid.
3. Put a disc into the caddy with the label facing up. Be sure to place the
   disc beneath the edge of the caddy.
4. Close the lid firmly.
5. Insert the CD caddy into the drive.

   The drive begins reading the table of contents of the disc, and the BUSY
   indicator lights.

Note: The drive ejects the caddy when:

* Disc is loaded upside down.
* Disc is not properly seated in the caddy.
* Drive cannot read data on the disc.

6. When the BUSY indicator goes off, the drive is ready to operate. Type the
   CD-ROM drive letter followed by a colon (d:) and press <ENTER> to choose
   the CD-ROM as the default drive.
7. Type: dir     press <ENTER>. A directory appears on your computer's
   screen.

Note: An audio disc has no directory.

CAUTIONS:

* Insert only a CD caddy (loaded with a CD) into the drive.
* Do not attempt to use a damaged disc.
* Do not drop, bend, or abuse the disc.

Ejecting a CD:

To remove the disc caddy, press the eject button.

If you cannot eject the caddy by pressing the eject button, turn off the
computer's power and insert a pointed object (such as a large, stout paper
clip) into the emergency eject hole. If you still cannot eject the caddy, 
take the drive to your local Radio Shack store for assistance.

Playing a CD:

The CDR-1501 software includes a program called TCDP.EXE that lets you play
audio compact discs (CDs). To listed to a CD, connect headphones to the
drive or connect the drive to a receiver/amplifier. Then, control play in
one of the following ways:

* Display the TCDP.EXE control panel, and select the appropriate icon or
  press the appropriate key.
* Enter special DOS line commands.

The TCDP.EXE Help screen lists the TCDP.EXE DOS line commands and the
keyboard commands you can use when you display the control panel. See
Panel Document.

Listening Through Headphones:

WARNING: Before you put on headphones, turn VOLUME all the way to the left
to reduce the volume to its minimum level. As you play the CD, gradually
adjust the volume.

Connect stereo headphones with a 1/8" plug to the drive's PHONES jack.

Listening Through a Receiver/Amplifier:

Connect shielded cables with phone connectors (not supplied) to the R (right)
and L (left) AUDIO OUT jacks on the back of the adapter interface. Then,
connect the cables to the receiver/amplifier's input jacks. These jacks
might be labeled TAPE, CD, or AUX.

Turn on the receiver/amplifier and select the audio input you connected the
drive to. Use the receiver/amplifier's volume and tone controls to adjust
the sound.

Note: The drive's VOLUME control does not affect the signal from the drive's
audio output jacks.
