Mouse Controller Calendar (250-1010) Installation Faxback Doc. # 5295 NOTE: This product will only work in a Tandy 1000 computer that uses the Memory PLUS Expansion Board. Be sure you have the following equipment: * Tandy 1000 Mouse Controller/Calendar Board * Type CR 2320H 3-volt Lithium Coin Cell Battery (26-163), included with the board. * DIGI-Mouse (sold separately) * Tandy 1000 Memory PLUS Expansion Board (sold separately) We highly recommend that you have the Mouse/Controller board installed by the service technicians at your Radio Shack Service Center. Doing so ensures expert installation, but also enables the technicians to quickly check to be sure all the equipment is functioning properly. If, however, you decide to install the boards yourself, first read through the instructions below completely, noticing all warnings about equipment handling. Then install the equipment, following the instructions exactly. CONNECTING THE MOUSE BOARD TO THE MEMORY BOARD CAUTION: Do not stand on a carpeted floor during this procedure. Walking on carpets promotes the build-up of static electricity, which, if discharged while you are handling a circuit board, can destroy integrated circuits (IC's) on the board. 1. WARNING: Be sure all equipment is turned off and disconnected. If any unit is on, you might damage the central processing unit or the board. Always wait at least 10 seconds between disconnecting the equipment and inserting or removing a board. 2. To avoid possible static charge build-up, touch a grounded metal object before beginning the installation, and DO NOT stand on a carpeted floor. 3. If the Lithium Coin Cell battery is not yet installed, slide it under the clip on the board, plus (+) side up, and snap it into place. If you install the battery upside down, it does not make contact. 4. Remove the 2 screws on the front of the main unit. Then, remove the computer's cover by sliding it straight toward the front of the unit. 5. Rotate the main unit so that the back of it faces you. To the immediate right of the fan are 3 option slots. Select any empty slot as the location for the Mouse/Controller Board, and remove the screw from the metal slot cover. Then remove the slot cover by tilting it away from you and lifting it out. Save the cover in case you need it later. Keep the screw. You need it to secure the Mouse/Calendar Board. 6. Discharge any static build-up by again touching a grounded metal object. Now grasp the Mouse/Calendar Board by its upper edges and position it above the black edge-connector socket behind the uncovered slot. Insert the board's metal panel into the slot in the same way the slot covers are mounted. At the same time, apply even downward pressure, engaging the edge-connector into its socket. 7. Replace the screw and tighten it to secure the board. Do not over tighten it. 8. Connect the cable from the DIGI-Mouse to the 9-pin connector on the Mouse/Calendar Board. 9. Reconnect all cables and replace the main unit's cover. NOTE: If the clock fails to retain time when the power is off, the battery is drained. Use a pointed instrument, such as a small screwdriver or an awl, to place it with another 3-volt Lithium Coin Cell Battery. (DTC/jlc-03/28/94)
